My pug is Third party f&t and I got shunted up the rear at a roundabout on sunday. She said she'd pay for it but now doesn't want to as it's too expensive. I notified my insurance anyway monday and logged it today. As I am TPF&T they won't do anything yet they said I have to get her policy number and phone her insurance co 1st then they will get in contact with my insurance if they need to be involved.

So what happens if she won't come forward with her policy details? Do I have to pay for legal help to claim the money back? If so will they be able to claim their fee's back too?

It's best you get the details of her if poss, not sure if refusal is against the rules etc, but there are accident management company’s that will help you to claim if the third party is reluctant to play ball

Oh and maybe pm Dan from adrian flux for more advice?

Thanks, do these companies charge or do they get their fee's from the claim?

Small charge up front i think and the rest should you succeed for most, i'd pass you the details for the one I’ve had dealings with they are good, but it's for bikes only :/

That's all very interesting, because I was under the impression that you pay for insurance not just in case YOU hit someone else, but for when someone hits YOU!!

ie; Fully Comp is exactly the same as for TPFT, but you can claim for your own fault repairs etc, not just someone else claiming from you.

So surely if you only have TPFT then your insurance company should be lodging a claim for your repairs from the other driver, not that you have to do all the work yourself

It's third party only so thought you where only covered if you hit someone ie your fault?, if it's there fault then it gets handled through them, sure it's the same for tpft, just your covered if it goes astray or set on fire :/

She cannot refuse to give her details, if she does then let the police know, as it's classed as hit and run.

when you are involved in an accident both parties must exchange insurance details if one party does not you need to get the law involved and if someone says they will pay without going through insurance companys you will find they dont have insurance

mention getting the MIB involved (motoring industry berau, not will smith lol) they wont want them involved as they will get the police involved for leaving an accident without leaving appropriate details, also there are a lot of no win no fee solicitors about that will look at your case and see if it is worth taking on

cool thanks for the responses. She seems alright about it and I hope she'll phone me her details as promised tommorrow justed needed to know what to do if she doesn't. I sort of feel sorry for her as the bumper alone is £240 without fitting/mouldings or painting TBH it's not that bad just cracked and paint missing. If I could get a bumper the same colour from a scrappy and she'd pay for it and get it fitted it I'd be happy with that but life's never that simple as it's a later bumper and a stoopid colour....dark blue with friggin pearl laquer by the paint code

Hi,

We use an accident management company that will take over for most non fault claims - if you need any help & want to try them then PM me tomorrow or email me at work - paul.crew@mercedes.co.uk & I will give them a try for you :)

Dont feel sorry for her mate, she made a mistake pure and simple. Its classed as leaving the scene of an accident or summit like that if she doesnt leave her details.

You may just be doing her a favour in learning her too pay attention !!

Also I applaud you for not going down the "I have whiplash" route !!

Fair dues if it has been a severe impact, you are probably gonna be sore, but in a minor shunt, no need. Thats why our premiums are so hi !

Hope it works out !

I was told by about 8 people in work to claim for whiplash with a variety of stories of claimants getting £3k+ but thought that would be wrong and I couldn't blatently go to a doctor and lie about an injury I didn't have...Karma and all that.

I've proper hit 2 cars up the arse a few years ago at 50mph+ so know what it feels like to be in her shoes I felt really bad because I could have killed someone that day we all got off lucky , whiplash and heavy bruising if it had been a lorry around that bend I'd not be here now. Never had a fault accident before or since in 21 years of driving just one of those days. Came round a motorway bend to a queue of stationary traffic I was in an audi 80 and hit a nearly new audi into a slightly older merc. An expensive day for the insurance company that was.
