Hi Guys, just fitted my 6x4 Mongoose cat back this morning and now its smoking like mad at tickover. The smoke is like a white fog and stinks!

I'm hoping it just something burning off the exhaust and it will clear. On the move its not visible.

I've only done about 3 miles in it since....

Any comment guys?

cheers.

Just to update this, I've done around 50miles in it this afternoon.

The car is completely smoke free running around and even in traffic, but when I got home and let it idle, within around 3mins it was smoking again. Very smelly and white, but maybe not quite as bad as just after it was fitted.

I'm concerned! :(

Sorry to say this bud, but I had a calibra turbo once and I was sat in a traffic que then all of a sudden plumes of white smoke. Ended up needing a turbo recon.

Happened with Murt's iirc.

Nope, my exhaust had oil in..... so really i spent alot of money for no reason.

What you reckon then Murt, give it more time to burn off?? Was yours a new exhaust that caused this?

I got a second hand exhaust mate, it had alot of oil in it, i think it took around 500 miles to burn it all off in the end, the stuff in my exhaust was white and blue smoke. Im not too sure to be honest mate

Thanks Murt.

Will give it more time & use. The smoke is kinda white and blue! But before the change my car was 100% OK.

Its not like I had a standard exhaust neither, it was a bean tin twin exit, but it had a mixer box in the middle where as this Mongoose doesn't.

Car still drives really well and pulls like a train and prior to the exhaust swap used absolutely no oil or water. Will have to keep an eye on these now.

Just wondering, why doesn't it smoke when on the move and under load?

The seals get hotter, expand then seal up whilst driving. When the tubs cool at idle they allow oil to pass

Of course! Cheers Jimmer.:)

Do you know what they used to fit the exhaust or did you fit them your self? If they were fitted by a garage, did they use exhaust putty or the new craze of using mastik? Could be something burning off from the fitting, but main question that no one has asked.

What does it smell like?

After another run today, I can see that the smoke is coming out of the passenger side exhaust.

It is more white than blue smoke, don't know how it smells, but it stinks.

Yep, I'm sure you guys are right. I need a new tub! Bummer.:cursing:
