Hello All,

I've just bought a 300zx 2+2 twin turbo on a J plate. It was imported in 2002 and is a 1992 car.

I kinda bought it 'blind'. I've got no 300zx experience, I've owned a WRX impreza before - but nothing like this........the car came without any history and there are no stickers on the timing belt cover indicating a recent belt.

The speedo is in MPH and the mileage shows 65k.

Its fine on cold idle, warmed up and moving I'm having no dramas - but as soon as the engine is warm and I get stuck in traffic I'm getting worrying amounts of blue smoke.

I've booked the car in for a cam belt brake, and oil service change but wondered if its a) a common problem, or b) something I might want to re-mortgage the house to sort out.

I fully appreciate it was a foolhardy impulse purchase - but i'm already in love with the car and would very much appreciate the benefit of your wisdom!

Oh, and can anyone reccomend a good mechanic in south east london / kent / surrey area??

Sounds like it could be turbo oil seals!! Im sure one of the more techy bods will comment shortly. Give Jeff at Zedworld a call or contact him through the traders section

welcome

i'd think dazkent from D2 is your man, could be your turbo seals are shot, oil burning off leaking oil on idle etc....wouldnt rush to do a cambelt change if you need turbos sorting as you'll need to take the engine out and can do all the belts n stuff at the same time

Sorry guys - just thought of another Q.

Can anyone tell me what the switchable Auto does?

theres an A/T button with HOLD and AUTO - and Overdrive on the gear lever.

A quick heads -up as to what each button does would be really appreciated!

Cheers, Sean

Pcv valves very easy job to clean or replace.

In Power mode the engine changes gear at the redline or thereabouts to get as much out of her before changing up but this happens automatically when you floor the throttle anyway , you,ll see a yellow light come on to the right of the steering wheel , when you ease off the gas for a short while it switches back to normall unless you,ve left the switch in the power position.

Hold lets your car pull away in second gear and change up fairly quickly to reduce torque to the rear wheels for driving in snow and ice .

Thats great, thanks for your help!

I think I need to find a pdf file download of a 300zx user handbook :)

Could I replace the PCV valves with an oil catch can?

zx-tt, is there easy way I can order the same front bumper on your avator(beet 300zx)?

I live in the U.S and it hard for me to order part oversea. Thanks

Sorry fella thats not my bumper, like it says " ill keep deaming" Id love to get my hands on that kit aswell, I have found that bumper available in the US ill try and find the link.

Your best bet would be to replace the pcv valves and route them through a catch can rather than run them without, they allow air through them on vacuum to purge the block of gases that build up.
