Hi everyone. Does anyone know is the Jap speedo circuit board and the UK speedo circuit board are the same? Also how much would I be looking at paying for a Jap spec speedo cluster?

The jap circuit board has a different resistor at R10 compared to the UK speedo, can be interchanged, the speedo changes at series4 i believe, ie 96.

The odometer cogs on the jap is black and the UK is blue, so changing speedo alone will make no difference to the odometer reading.

Jap clocks work out cheaper than UK clocks due to the fact that those who change to UK no longer have use for the Jap clocks.

It would help if you explain what you are after specifically.

Yeah I have a problem with the circuit board on my UK speedo. All I need is another circuit board but I guess I'll have to buy a set and change it over. Would you be able to change it over Groover?

Ivan

You might just have a dry joint on the board which is quite a common problem.

I have some spare speedo's jap and a UK one. Best to change the whole dial rather than just the board as the needle will have to come off otherwise and there in lies one of the other biggest problems lol.

Let me know if you want anything doing, i will have a look for you.

Cheers

Groover you are a top lad. I already have the board stripped out and the needle off already. Would you be willing to have a looksee for me?

Youve taken the needle off  Did you have problems with the speedo before during or after the needle was taken off. IE was the speedo intermittent before removing needle? Did you remove the needle to say put some el dials or a new face plate, then found it was erratic.

I can have a look at it for you but the needle generally needs to be put back on under load, ie engine on and thats assuming the pin hasnt been pulled out with it lol

Let me know, it may be more beneficial to replace the whole speedo dial if its buggered but cant hurt having a look.

Dude no offence if you have them but I think the EL dials are vile. Stock is fine but I haven't seen a white set I like. It had been playing up for over a year before I decided to get round to it. If you gave the top cover of the instruments a whack sometimes it came back on or if you pushed the wiring in at the back it worked. I have tried a substitute cluster and that works fine. I can build it back up no probs. Needle pin is deffo still in the circuit board part. Was very careful not to break it upon removal.

None taken, i used to have them, but got UK clocks now.

Sounds like you have a dry joint then more than likely. Run a soldering iron and some fresh solder over the tracks and components on the speedo circuit board, but try it before you bolt everything back together to make sure you hit the right spot
