I've since been told that this could be down to my oil cooler, could this be true?? Please help, I'm desperate, the car has been off the road more than on in the last twelve months!!!!!

Have you just bought secondhand boxes ? Why not get yours refurbed (and a new cooler) ?

I have a BRAND NEW automatic transmission for 'a 90-'96 Nissan 300ZX Twinturbo for sale, including NEW torque converter and NEW electronic controle unit.

This transmission has the latest factory upgrades/modifications, that is why it comes with the new controle unit.

Pleas let me know if you are interested.

When it comes down to it, I'm sick of the expense. This car is the most fantastic thing I've ever driven but I really need to get it back on the road at minimal expense as I cannot afford things going wrong on it all the time (the gearbox isn't the only thing I've had to replace; propshaft bearing, front discs, speedo, oil cooler, etc) and as I'm currently trying to buy a house I can do without it. Any suggestions?

There is no way you should have gone through these boxes unless there was something wrong with them.

There are people who say you should have a cooler fitted but there are loads of us here who don't have 'em and have no problems at all.

I'd take it back to where you got it and complain - especially if they are all from the same place!

To Nend..

How much & what are the factory mods??

Jan..

The 300zx auto tranny have been updated and modified over the past years, both mechanical

and software.

This tranny has the latest mods and therfore comes with a new controle unit.

Asking Euro 2000

wich is what about £1,350.00

OffThe Planet. If you don't mind some advice, think this through. If you've fitted 4 box's and suffered the same fate with all of them, then there is definately something about your car (or you) that is breaking them!

My cooler failure mode led to late shifting followed by loss of top gears followed by slipping in all the gears. I now know, that it happens when 1 of the 2 cooler circuits in the radiator block up (I've checked mine and guess what?). I'm told the first symptoms are terminal for the box, as they are caused by melted plastic components, but I don't know cos it's much cheaper to replace than repair.

The aftermarket (air/oil) cooler has been the fix for me, though the gearbox warm up is a little slower (there is a software control based on oil temp). It now takes about a mile to be hot cos it hasn't got the engine coolant heating functionality.

The final Irony is that you are not the only person that shoufd be pissed off tht Nissan did not code the software for this gearbox overheat prob. The hardware is all in place!!

Oh. The main question was where:

Gearbox: Findapart (Yellow pages or any mechanic for the number - also web based) (£400 - £600 dependant on guarentee) Note though there are 2 types - 1 is much bigger than the other.

Cooler: Rally Design 01795 531871 (£50ish + pipes) or any 90's Supra Turbo (The supra doesn't go wrong!)
