previously had a clean license. Got pulled over and he was talking about court, ban etc as it was more than 25mph over the limit....

Anyway, I was as humble as could be and he gave me a fixed penalty notice, so not as bad as it could have been. I'd only popped out for a quick spin to check I'd fixed a few things, all I'm saying is thank god he didn't clock me 30secs earlier!

lucky! i was caught doing 86 in a 60 in my 1.3 astra automatic over ten years ago and i got away with 3 points. i think a big slice of humble pie usually helps with the rozzers, they need their ego boost for the day.

59 in a 50 on M25 (average speed camera) got 3 points(valid 4 years) and £60penalty. Under each average speed camera was a big sign reading "CAMERA NOT IN USE" -:censored::asshole:

i was sooooooo lucky last april, i was out in my zed, and i must admit i was showingoff to a friend, pulled away from some lights spun the wheels went up to about 60 in a 30 then about half amile up the road gave it some, at the next lights turned right and then gave it some beans again about 60 in a 30, then the unmarked x5 puts his lights on pulls me over,,, he was follwing me all the time ,,,, HE LOVED MY CAR AND LET ME OFF,,, Lucky or what, no points.... no fine....:sweatdrop:

I know this is going to sound like my Dad but generally the speed limits we have in place are mostly sensible and tuned to road layout/conditions etc etc. 85 miles an hour is FAST and things can go wrong very quickly at that speed - someone pulls out or moves into your lane, tyre lets go (rare I know but does happen), child runs into the street.....so many horrible possibilities. And the chances of holding things together at that speed or dealing with unexpected occurences are vastly reduced compared to travelling at the speed limit. I'm not saying I never break the speed limit - I do - but 85 in a 50 or 60 in a 30 is not sensible.......

Just my 2p worth.

Well put Mark, I'm no saint when I'm out driving and it's good to be reminded that sh*t can happen.

Paul

I've had fast cars since I could afford to insure them and I'm yet to get a speeding fine, but I've been soooo lucky sooooo many times.

Just before Xmas I got pulled by an Unmarked 3 series, after an all out *****cking in the back of the car, where he showed me the video of the Zed screaming down the outside lane, he told me he was doing 100 and couldn't keep up.

I know I'd hit 120 (I barely said a word) before slowing to 50 and spotting the blues and twos, my asshole has never been as active as it was in the 20 second walk to the police car.

Imagine my relief as the copper utters the words 'You are really ****ing lucky my equipment wasn't calibrated before I started my patrol'

Marky - If we wanted to be sensible we'd have bought Volvos surely?

Sounds like a line from a 'Carry on ' film!!

Thats all fine till someone doing 60 in a 30 wipes out your wife and kids.

I sincerely hope you never kill someone or yourself or indeed just write off your Zed.......but I suspect you'll only realise having any sense made any sense when it's too late with an attitude like that........

Speeding is not legally acceptable in any form, but to be fair I bet 99% of people speed at some point.

There are places where speeding, although not right where a bit of fun puts nobody at risk accept yourself.

I have a mad 1/2 hr occasionally, but only on certain types of roads where you can clearly see all around you and well ahead. If I ditch the car and seriously hurt myself then its my own fault. I always back right off to normal when passing oncoming traffic etc.

But speeding in 30's 40's is a big no no, especially in built up residential areas.

I say, have some fun, but please don't put anyone else at risk. Use lots of common sense!

Knowing James I would trust his judgement and driving skills, a lot of owners out there are driving cars that should be off the road and lets be honest guys, we have bought a motor that was a supercar in it's day, the occasional blast in sensible conditions can be forgiven!

wasn't expecting some of these comments! For the record, it was a part of the A3, three lanes, very little traffic, no junctions or slip roads.

I'd say in general (not about any specific posts in this thread), if you get caught speeding and its not by an unmarked car then the cops are probably right...if you didn't see a marked car with a big blue light across the roof as you flew past then you weren't paying enough attention, possibly due to excessive speed :whistling:

Could have had it dropped then, any recording/image made without a court order you need to be made aware of or cant be used. They had already told you it wouldnt be used with the sign.

I think there is speeding and then there's speeding.

Doing 90 on the motorway (assuming little or no traffic) is a completely different scenario to doing 50 in a built-up area.

Absoluetly agree....
