Hi guys, just after picking your brains... I could do with a new rear bumper, seeing as i am getting the car up to tip top condition, just wondering if there are any body shop geezers out there who can tell me what the best way to prep it for spraying is, as it has that orange peelish stippled effect on the bottom half, obviously wet n dry wont do it....

Cheers, front bumper arrives in the morning, woo!:thumbup:

Best way to remove the factory stonechip paint is with a da sander and 80grit disc,if you dont have one, hire or borrow an electric orbital sander and some velcro discs,go 80g to level it off, then 120g to remove the swirl marks.Otherwise wrap some around a sanding block and rub it out by hand, itll take ages but you'll have one arm like popeye:lol:

thanks mate, and yeah, still got that stuff on the sides... i think i'll buy a sander (after i've bought a bumper of course) but due to the lack a female companion at the mo, i'd probably make quick work of it by hand, haha :xxx::xxx:

80 Grit on a sander, then 150 grit when its smooth use a filler primer in a can and while its wet spray a black guide coat (thin coat of paint) on it. Then wet flat it all using 8-1200 wet and dry paper until all the black guide coat is removed. If you can see any left it means you have low spots and need to fill and repeat the proceedure until it is all smooth. Then paint and use G3 to cut the finnish you want.

thanks madmax, but is that the only way to do it, i don't really mind the original finish, just couldn't see how to prep it because of the texture, i don't mind doing it tho if it'll look better, anyone got any pictures of a smooth one?

Its the right way to do it to stop it looking shite, standard way to do all paintwork repairs :scared:

Okies, cheers, that might explain why all the paint has peeled off behind the rear wheels, with water etc. splashing on it after it was sprayed (before i bought it), that's what i'll do then, gonna go for a uk bumper i think, so i've got the fog lights incorporated, and to confuse people :)

Not a great picture but gives a idea and well worth the effort smoothing it off.
