Hi all

Just considering upgrading my front brakes as being an auto I obviously rely on them hugely in normal driving let alone anything spirited, however wanted to know what people's experiences are with regard to possibly unbalancing the braking of the car and therefore making it unstable under heavy braking.

Does a front-only upgrade have that effect ? Should it really be a front AND rear upgrade to maintain balance and stability ?

Any thoughts most welcome.......

I would say you cant go wrong with a skyline R33, R34, or 350Z brembo upgrade. THey work with the ABS system fine and loads of people put them on just the front or all round with no probs. Think the rears are prety much the same anyway.

cheers

If I remember right the early n/a zeds have slightly different frount brakes to the tt, think it's about 3mm differance. Rears are the same on both. I changed the disks on mine for some groved ones and that seems to have worked well, plus it's cheaper than the brembo kit!

Skyline R33 R34 calipers will cost a bit of money, £500-£900, but are a direct bolt-on.

350Z calipers are pricey too, and would need a relocating bracket for fitment to the hub.

If your budget is big, then go for the k-sport, D2 set-up, great bit of kit, direct bolt on too. Luke at the Zcentre sells them.

Small budget, i would advise relocating brackets for 350Z discs, standard calipers, on the front (just dont brake too hard!!). Leave the rears as is.

Thanks guys.

Was looking at the Akebono set-up on ConceptZ but will probably wait till someone else has taken the plunge and can offer some feedback on them. I do like the whole keep-it-Nissan thing.

As far as I know, Eric (Lymon on here) has installed the Akebono 370Z brake kit from ConceptZ on one of his Z32's with great success and results. I'm sure he'll chime in with useful feedback soon.

Other that the above, I can highly recommend the KSport brake kits. To retain the braking balance I would opt for either:

1. 330mm/8-pot front & 330mm/6-pot rear, or

2. 356mm/8-pot front & 330mm/6-pot rear

Either of the above will not negatively impact the ABS system and the latter is perfect for fast road and/or track use.
