Guys

I have bought a load of braided hose off this chap on ebay, thing is it has all turned up and it has plastic PTFE insides instead of rubber? it is advertised as being the best kind of stuff.

The last lot i bought from someone else had rubber insides

Im worried about it shrinking down tightly onto the pipes and not leaking with a clip on it.

Steer well clear of plastic pipe Bud, as although you may have tightened them up.Due to heat, compression is lost and you will end up with leaks. I have learn't by bitter expereance.Stick to braided re-enforced rubber.

Just to add to that above, it should be reasonably high pressure and 7.9mm not 6mm.

cheers

I have £300 of this stuff here in different sizes that arrived today, but im not putting it on if it is not up to the job. I have just sent the guy a mail asking if he will swop it for rubber or refund me but I doubt he will do either but we will have to wait and see.

The other rubber stuff I bought from someone else has been fine to use, I just assumed it was all rubber!!!. Just heard back they will not refund or replace them and say they are better than rubber ones ... Tossers.. Im going to neg feedback them.

So your using the other sizes then for other things? vacumms and breathers and water etc is okay, it's just the actual fuel lines that are really important, as i said 7.9mm too and around 3Metres will do all your lines in the engine bay , so it won't mean sending the lot back.

I still have some rubber braided left that I can use on the fuel lines but I bought

4 metres of 16MM

4 metres of 12mm

5 Metres of 10mm

6 metres of 8mm

The plan was to replace all the pipes I could with it all. maybe the bigger stuff I can run wires through to tidy stuff up that way?.

Christ mate, yer don't hang about eh lol

You sure you got a home for that little lot...

Let us know what your planning on changing and will tell you if any good or not. But for now just swap yer 8mm for ssomething really decent.

If he refunds you, the likes of Goodridge and Earl's do the best and as you only need a few Metres, though expensive, it ain't too bad.

Also don't forget, when using any of this type of stuff, unless you use the correct ends, it all looks kinda shite.

I have bought a load of rubber black ends and it looks ok. In some places they dont fit so you cant use them. They have given me some guys number to call who manufactures the stuff. They said speak to him and then if im not convinced I can send it back less postage and packing.

With any excess I planned to help some of the fellow members out on here... its better to have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it.

Braided with PTF internals are no use IMHO - it's gotta be rubber and 'AN' - otherwise you are defeating the object of using braided hoses in the first place (and your limited as to the end fittings you can deploy) - that being (hopefully) that you fit them once and never have to worry about them again! (OH - and they are shiny).

I've just made 2 lengths of stainless braided rubber fuel hose to replace the ones that run from the battery side to the plenum, when I remove the existing pipes will it spill a small amount of fuel only, or will it keep flooding out? Whats the best way to approach this install?

Small black relay box near teh brake/cluth booster, it's marked.

Pull it and crank the engine a few times, only a small amount of fuel then will leak.

What i do is as soon as i remove one end of a fuel line, fit the new one and leave angled upwards, remove the other end of the old one and now fit the other end of the new one and so on etc

Remove fuel filler cap to release any pressure. Place an old rag under the joint and remove pipe. You will get a small amount of petrol drip out but nothing to worry about.Done mine loads of times and never had a prob doing it this way.

Well I managed to get the pipes fitted quite easily, but I've removed the metal bar that the old pipes ran through across the plenum but there's a little vacuum pipe that runs to the fuel damper and down towards the fuel filter, obviously i need to get a length of pipe to replace the metal one but is it ok to run the car with it not attached till i can get one?
