It's very sad to hear of people like Dan crashing thier cars. Just remember Dan it's only a lump of metal. I'm glad both you and your family are OK. That's all that matters.

Just a thought folks if none of you have ever lost the back end I would suggest you get some practice in, and soon!

Lot's of power and rear wheel drive will produce lots of tail wagging action.

My tip is to find an empty carpark after an April shower and have a go at stepping the back out and experimenting with opposite lock.

You would be amazed how easy it is to balance the Zed in a power slide.

The tip is to ease power in and out. Backing off in a tail slide is a bad thing to do.

As well as being a good thing to improve your driving skills it could save your Tin and life. On top of that it's bloody good fun!

Enjoy!

Could not agree more, I got my experience in my old 200SX on real road in real traffic, not good.

But for those of you in or around Birmingham get yourself down to the N.E.C. they have loads of empty carparks which are all nicely tarmac'd, I know one of the top bosses there (he's married to my mom's best mate) and I'm sure I could organise something for some of us to use one of those empty carparks for the day (preferably a wet day) Even if it's just an excuse for a Z meet!

What do the guys think?

how well do you know this geezer and how big are the car parks as the cruise at blackpool this weekend had over 700 cars so we need to start finding bigger venues

I know this geezer well enough for him to buy me a beer!

His name is Nigel but I won't hold that against him....LOL

My mom and his wife (Maggie) have been the best of friends for about 20+ years now and they have been married (Nigel and Maggie) about 15 of those, I know him well enough to be cheeky and ask for a very, very, very reduced rate on one of these car parks....maybe free who knows??

I will make some enquiries on our behalf.

The carparks are massive....they have to cater for all the show traffic.....So you can imagine all the visitors the N.E.C. gets for the Motor show and the like, They all need parking spaces, And they never use the overflow carparks!

Matty,

Sounds like a great idea.

I was up in Birmingham last week, loads of traffic in the centre due top them knocking down the Bull Ring.

Due to me being in London and near the Wembley Stadium i might just go down there.

Massive car park as you'd expect. You have got to get the timing write Sundays are not a good idea as you've got the famous Wembley Market going on. Early Sat mornings are best I would think.Loads of CCTV though, hoping we can't get nicked for this??

Zee ya

I quite enjoy getting the back end out - I try to do it in the wet though as I have to be going a fair whack to do it in the dry! I find the Z very well behaved in the rear end slide area - quite neutral and when it does go its quite progressive - Quite a thing to do to keep the power down and steer through it. I did have a moment the other week at a roundabout where the M58 meets athe A570 - huge affair with plenty of room - it was dry and I floored it - wasnt expecting it and it kicked out big sideways movement - lots of opposite lock - when I straightened it out I was facing the sliproad for the motorway, a bit of braking and I was back on course - I think I gave the white transit an idea of the handling of a Z under power!! Needless to say its best to do it when you can when its wet coz the speeds are very slow and learn how the car responds to the throttle and the steering and how the slide feels, the when (coz it will) it happens at least you've been there before. My fiancee doesnt like me sliding it (if she's not there!) but I like to keep my hand in!!! The grin factor is huge!

If you get the adjustable traction control you can dial-in the %age slip, thereby looking like a real racer - when you're not !

I'm not sure I agree with a big meet on a car park your likely to get your collar felt.

Pushing your vehicle to it's limit in a safe(ish) environment is always a good idea. During my early biking days it was good practice to try out the powerslides on the MotoX on a suitably shiggy stage. Backing off the power in a slide has one effect, a high side. You soon learn to keep the power on as that's all you have to control it. Basic physics.

Back to the thread about driving courses and police skid pans I think ...

car park antics are very much dependant on the owner if its camered and the police or the owners want to they can do you for wilful damage to their property....new laws came in last year allowing our boys in blue to have you for dangerous driving on public car parks.....having said that the police at blackpool this weekend were more than happy to just sit back and watch as long as people didnt start putting oil down on the car park and it stopped at 10ish so residents wouldnt be going mad.they were booking poeple for tinted windscreens though. my usual trick is to turn up start them all off with a show and do one at the end before i get off home. johnny watches from a distance lol
