...a friend of mine is looking to downgrade her Hyundai Coupe. She is doing far too much business travelling and only allowed to claim 16p per mile. She is looking for a small/medium diesel hatch with good MPG, but still has a bit of poke about it. Preferably between new and 3 years old. Any suggestions anyone?

any little wv group car ...

someone suggested a 2.0 GT TDi to her - mid-8s 0-60 (which would suit her nicely) and about 50mpg. i think she's looking for something with a little more character tho...

So fast?, diesel?, character!!!!for a girl??

That would have been my call too - I like the VW Golf TDi but the Seat is cheaper; just as well made and has more character....

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Yep, same here. Can't go wrong with a VAG group car, and the Seat is the most stylish.

Audi A3 would be the other option, Classier but not as good value for money.

Leon is a great car and looks better heaps better than the Golf IMO. Handling on them is excellent and build quality is pretty decent too. Comes with a decent level of kit.

Few things I don't like about the Leon....these are pretty insignificant but offer high levels of annoyance. There is no blind spot mirror...and the Leon has quite a blind spot. Also, the glove box is truly pathetic and you can barely get the service/handbooks in there.

The zeds not much better

Nope, but it's a sports car. Sod having shite in the glovebox. Bit like trying to instal cup holders! LOL

what about a mondeo tdci or a skoda, not as nice looking as the leon but for long distance travellign will be pritty comfy.
