I've just had cam belt changed with all bearings, tensioner etc - got the car back Friday, took her out today for 1st time and total lack of power. :cursing:

At idle when put foot on gas revs drop to virtually nothing and then rise, very little power through revs, the noise of the exhaust has increased a lot

Just like idea of possible causes - timing? cambelt out on a pulley? :helpsmilie:

I would have a look under the bonnet is if something has come upluged or come loose.

Or could be timing.

I would PM Jeff the zed god.

Could well be connected to the belt change, ask the garage if they checked the timing with a timing light after they changed the belt, reason why is that as the timing may have been set previously with an old (streched belt) and now is retarded, or they have made a mistake with the belt installation.

This is more likely than you would thing, from my own experience I have seen many belts wrongly installed by all manor of garages and mobile mechanics, have no idea why its a very simple operation, also ask what make of belt was fitted.

Maybe a coincidence that a bad connection on the temp sensor or ptu has some bearing on it too.

Back to who changed the belt I think

Thanks Jeff

The belt was a Dayco as it has warranty if any part of cam system fails, belt, bearings

The belt was marked with white stripes for cam timing marks but strangely mechanic said that 1 of the stripes was 2 teeth out on 1 of the cams - he also said that he checked the cambelt was checked 10 times before re-assembly.

I will take back to him with your suggestions.

Peronally do not like Dayco belts, the profile of the teeth does not match the sprockets well and are very undefined, also very cheap, last time I checked with a supplier they were £8 !!

If I can be of help to your mechanic tell him to call me at the workshop no worries.

8 quid ?! thats .. iam speachless ..(((

Me too.....

......ONLY use a genuine Nissan belt. It's such a vital part so it should not be scrimped on:thumbdown:

If it were my car I'd have it changed again right away, mate!

Richard:)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Good advise, Don't forget it. Engine re-build, a hell of a lot compared to saving a few quid on a belt, warranty or not.

They sell tools at Aldi, if you break them, you get them replaced, what you break with them won't get replaced though !!

Car going back in again on Monday, going to have genuine belt fitted. And thanks Jeff, I have checked car over myself and I think there is temp sensor issue.

The car seems to go to temp really quick even in this cold weather and revs stay at idle not 1300 when cold. I cleaned them up the connectors and found as I moved connector engine revved and cooling fan cut in.
