Can anybody help ? My steering when turning goes heavy light heavy and is NOT quick responsive. If turning out of a junction it can near pull me into oncoming traffic (thats if theres any) lol. It is pretty dangerous though.

I have read a few threads on this but still do not know where to start.:helpsmilie:

Do you have a speedo converter (KPH to MPH) fitted? And is the steering wheel on straight, also do you have HICAS still?

If you look near the front left headlight, you will see it,

Number 12 on this list :)

Dos the speedo jump up and down? the power steering is controlled by the speed via the speed sensor through the speed clock. Three things can effect the P/S a faulty speed sensor, (Unlikly to be this) dry solder joints on the rear of the clock assembly or a looce conection. Thirdly if you have a MPH/KPH convertion box giving an intermitant signal to the ECU.

Allan

Check the connections on the solenoid on the steering rack.

Dry joints in the "steering" ecu down by the engine ecu.

As mentioned above speed sensor (your speedo will come and go with this one)

Also mentioned above, the solder joints on the back of the speedo

All sorts of cables

Also mentioned above, a non hicas steering wheel on a hicas car

hicas light coming on can be caused by low power steering fluid level......

If you have a failed hicas solinode it will make the fluid go airated and light pink as the fluid is pushing against a blank circuit . check the fluid if its still cherry clear the solinode is most prob ok

thanks peeps was doing other things today so will check these out.

speedo is fine..... no jumping about

Seized u/j on steering column directly above steering rack.Quite rare but it can happen.Youll have to mark the u/j,s lower position on the rack or your wheel wont be straight after youve removed it.Leave it soaking in diesel then work it to free up the tight bearing.
