Feck me if i can't drive, what the hell does that say about your driving!!!!!!! :detective: :2guns:

You know full well were i've been and you're just jealous

My brother did, he passed last year as an instructor, theres a lot of studying to do, a few tests to take. He started teaching then found he hated it. At first getting clients is the hard bit, cos you have the car, ins, signs etc to pay for, i think he got bored. He bought a taxi business in the end and never looked back.

Cost a few grand from start to training, so can also take a while to recoup your investment.

These adverts that say become a driving instructor, all you need is a clean license etc.. Its not as straight forward as they make out.

What do you need to know, i can ask him

I've done a bit of research on the whole 'nowt needed except a license' malarky and i fully understand it is not as straight forward as that and there is alot to it.

The things that appeal to me is i can start it from scratch (as in i don't need experience) and it seems to have good long term prospects.

Basically mate, i wanna know how much it is gonna cost me but more importantly how long the training takes and what job prospects/availability is there at the end of it all. Baring in mind i will have to get a part time job to survive!

Other than that is there anyway of signing up to a company were i agree to work for them to save me the expense of laying out the initial £3000 for thr training.

Any help will be very much appreciated mate.

That's right- they never use their mirrors!!

The amount of driving tests I've done, I think I should just qualify as a driving instructor and not have to take another test:censored::winkiss:

I used to be a driving instructor and it is not all that its cracked up to be. Firstly the exam you have to pass after initial training with a driving school, is horrendous. There are normally two people in the car besides you and one plays the pupil and the other observes. The pupil then goes into apesh1t mode usually in the middle of town and you have to retain control at all times. The observer watches how you cope with a plank behind the wheel in a busy town centre. Once you have passed normally because you have trained ( and you have to) with an established driving school, they take you on and they find your clients. The problem with this is that you get all the crap clients, i.e., from out of town or in dodgey districts of your area, people who don't speak English and old ladies, 70 ish whose husband has recently passed away and has now decided to learn to drive. They normally have specs like jam jar bottoms and have always got their mouths open. They have absolutely no raod sense, no co-ordination, and no memory so every lesson is like the first. You spend most of your time travelling across town which equals fuel and time. You also have to work weekends, evenings and early mornings as clients like you to fit in with their jobs, i.e. they want to have a lesson whilst driving to work in the morning, this coupled with also working evenings, means you are not having any home life, social life or a good nights sleep. By the time the school takes out their charges for the car, the fuel and the adminstration you will be lucky to be on minimum wage. Your marriage will fail, you will end up in debt and probably call on Harold Shipman to do away with half your clients, some of whom will leave stains on your seats because they are incontinent, dribble and their dentures fall out when they brake. Go for it, it is all part of lifes rich experience. Don't say you have not been warned.

My Bro did it all through LDC, got the car independently but appraised by LDC, still cost him a few grand though to get through the test. Started with the LDC franchise, ie they supply name board etc and direct enquiries from their website to you if its in your area.

The studying was very hard, especially to remember all the key points and as old zed said theres several practical tests.

He did taxiing to supplement his income, but as time progressed he had the chance to buy the taxi business. He makes more money and its instant cash.

I would become a taxi driver if i were you, you can earn more money and with less stress and very little outlay.

Some very interesting points fella's, thanks.

Someone has mentioned taxi driving to me, so maybe i'll have a goosey gander at that also.

At the mo i'm applying for anything and everything as all my current work is as and when and very unstable.

Cheers,

Isaac

Hi Bud, One of my mates has worked at General Traffic in Southport for over 10 years (thats a partco type of place of those who dont know) and just left to become a Taxi driver! He absolutley loves it, he said all his stress levels have completley gone and the daily 9 till 5 is a thing of the past, he can do what and when he wants and cant see him ever leaving the job.

Daz.

P/s what you doing tonight??? I need a lift to Liverpool `TAXI!!!!!!`:tt2:

I would surmise that taxiing in sleepy Southport with its 'Blue rinse silver surfers' is a doddle compared to any number of other Northern cities & towns.
