Hi,

In the process of trying to get a cheap Z to do up, the question is, is there power difference between the the twin turbo manual or the automatic or is it the same engine and spec but different gearbox set up?

Also If I end up getting an auto I will be doing a manual conversion is this hard work and costly.

Thanks for the advice,

Mark

manual's have slightly bigger tubs so will give bigger peak power but autos turbos are smaller so will give less peak power but quicker spooling.

^ what he said. manual conversions are a common thing to do/have done. ZedWorld on here provide this service. ive had a manual conversion and to be honest i didnt notice any specific difference in output as such, but i found the manual far more enjoyable to drive :duffer:

iirc Autos are about 15hp down on a manual. To swap the boxes over seems to be the norm at the min :cool3:

Thanks for the reply, are the engine internals the same?

I have been reading the bhp out puts are the same for auto and manual is this right?

how much do zed world charge for the manual conversion, probs give it ago myself but would be nice to know.

Also dont forget that near enough all auto boxes die after a while!

No the cams are slightly different in the auto it also has about 15 to 20bhp less but in the real world you wont really notice the difference.

The auto uses Different cams profiles and turbo sizes to improve response, in an attempt to make up for the Autobox.

Auto Camshafts - 240 degree intake cams & 248 degree exhaust cams

Manual Camshafts - 248 degree intake cams & 248 degree exhaust cams

Auto Turbos - A/R = 0.54

Manual Turbos - A/R = 0.63

300 (manual) and 280 (auto) is the quoted figures for the U.S Market. For the European Market the figures are 276 bhp (Manual) and 263 (Auto). But U.S vs Euro vs Jap thats a whole other discussion.
