:clover:hi lads still having this problem , car starts fine , drives like it down on power , on stationery when i rev it , it backfires , should i check the crank angle sensor could this cause back fire , valve timing 100%

any ideas , could it be the two solenoids at the back of the inlet cams , or AFM , showing code 55 :clover:

I'd check your timing with a strobe, i had EXACTLY that problem, timing was 10 degrees out, have you done a manual conversion by any chance?

yeah i bought it with the manul conversion done , just rebuilt the engine

i put a twin cone system on it with an elbow

hey tudor lovely motor , should put pics of mine up but just want to get her running right first

Like suggested above, check your timing and if that is not bad, try putting a piece of tape down one side of the cone filters to "disturb" the air flow a bit

Don't block it, just put a piece of tape down one side. This causes a bit of turbulance to better distribute the air and can sometimes help the MAF read more accurately

thanks matey, finally got her right, almost MOT time, yay... when you do a manual conversion, which i did, you either need to short out a pin on the ECU for the neutral switch, or adjust the timing. if the engine knows it's in neutral, it retards the timing by 10 degrees, to 15, then when you put it in drive, the neutral switch dissengages and the timing advances to 25 degrees. i didn't know that when i did my conversion, so have been fannying about for weeks, months even, trying to sort out my lack of torque and power, pops and bangs and missfires, 10 minutes to adjust the timing and she runs like smearing honey all over cheryl cole, nice :)
