Hello Everyone.

I'm Dan from Bristol.

I've just aquired a 300ZX TT. (Auto if that makes any difference?)

I've been reliably informed that it needs a new nearside Turbo.

Where can I go? What should I do? Who can I trust? How much should I pay?

I have a very very good mechanic, so mail order parts are an option.

I am wanting standard bits, I will only consider modified if they are cheaper.

Thanks very much, hope to speak to a few of you soon! :D

Hi mate and welcome, if you need someone to carry out the work I would recommend Z world in Tamworth, however if it's mainly the turbo your after there are a few sources etc

are you could go reconditioned?

Chris

think its an engine out job. You might be able to do it in place but its very very tight. speck to jeff on here. Zworld is one of the best around

Speak to Jimmer, he is in Bristol !!

(do a forum search, you will find him very highly recommended).

His name is jeff hes a member on here JeffTT im sure he will be along in a bit :euro:

I've found Jimmer, not pm'd him though, he looks a budy lad! lol.

I'll wait a while, see if he see's this.

While I'm here, there is/was a guy with a bright yellow modified 300ZX in Bristol, anyone know his forum name? (I know his brother)

Jimmer is very experienced with the Z's engine as i'm sure a fair few members will vouch for,

not sure on the yellow Z?

welcome matey... I bought my 300zx with a suspected seized nearside turbo... do the 'rubber glove trick' to confirm it - as mine was actually the offside. Nearside you can do in situ, with removing most things down there, but offside needs engine out (or lifted up) :)

Hello Dan,

Just for your information provided the only issue is the n/s turbo then its a relatively easy fix.

If your on a budget the turbo can be replaced with a good tested used one and without the need to remove the engine its just a day and a bits work.

One word of advice, the reason why the turbo failed needs establishing once it is removed otherwise there is a possibility the replacement one will go the same way, the most common issue is with the oil feed and this needs removing and cleaning thoroughly or replacing.

It is possible to do the job on a diy basis, but unless you have good tools/ jack/ramp access and mechanical knowledge it could turn into a nightmare.

However there is so much help available here you may well still fancy doing it, either way good luck.

His name's Dave, and his surname has 'check' in it, so i'd assume that was him!

Hi mate and welcome. I had major problems with my nearside turbo and found that the oil pipe straight out the block behind the air con pump was blocked. Had the turbo oil return pipe off running and got nothing through the turbo so a new pipe on and it was fine after that however i did manage to do the nearside turbo with the engine in after i had lifted the engine to replace the other one. If you need any help id be happy to offer my advise as well :)
