The handle next to the seat should still work mate.

not sure if it has one of those it's a 97 model will go have a look

Boot does not need to be opened for MOT !

If there was an issue with accident damage or severe corrosion to the top rear suspension mounts and Tester subsequently wanted to inspect from the inside then could have an issue, but it would fail in that case anyway. In a hatchback/coupe access could be gained via the rears seats in such a situation anyway.

I dont have an MOT license, but I have watched & assisted many MOT inspections and have never seen the Boot opened.

Sorry mate, I thought you were talking about your zed  should really read the post before replying..:whistling:

You should refuse to test ;)

Refusal to test:

g. A proper examination cannot be carried out because any door, tailgate, boot, engine cover, fuel cap or other device designed to be readily opened cannot be readily opened.

and do you ?

and do you ?

To be honest - yes I would! VOSA dont mess around when it comes to shutting test stations down or terminating testers!

I cant remember the last time I did have to refuse to test - but then I mainly work on newer vehicles in my dealership.

Many (many! LOL) years ago I used to work in a smaller garage & did used to refuse to test when needed :smartass:

ok, Im suprised, but like I said I dont know the exact rules, I've never seen the boot opened in all the MOT's I've taken cars too and assisted with through the trade.

I've had experience with a dodgy MOT tester in the past....I had his license taken off him, but If my boot did'nt open I would'nt be worried about an MOT.

The boot/tailgate should always be opened & inspected inside & tested to ensure it latches securely.

Many testers do not test very strictly! I do & also ensure all my techs do! Not to be strict as such but it is simply the right way of doing things! :)

should,nt they need entry to check the condition of the spare

The condition of the spare tyre is not part of the MOT

I'll back Legrath up here, I have always watched my MOTs been done and honestly - they have never been in the boot. Over the years I have used 3 different test stations.

So my answer to the original question would be that you'd be unlucky to be failed or refused a test because the boot doesn't open - but I wouldn't point it out to the tester!!

Hmmmm very interesting! tell me more

LOL!!

A friend of mine is a VOSA inspector - am sure he would be interested in the testing stations that operate this way!! :devil2:

i have a couple of mot failures for boot not opening, both because the tester did not know how to open the boot of a vert

Think you wil find out that if a spare is present it has to be legal but you dont have to have a spare for the test, The tester should still check for this hence the need to be able to open
