Owing to the bad weather this morning I drove 12 miles in the opposite direction to pick up my friend from work, since she would prefer not to drive in the snow and ice.

Now on the way back towards work, we entered a dual carriageway. Overnight about 2 inches more snow had fallen; whilst the left lane was fairly clear of snow, the right lane was unused and still had said snow fall covering it.

We were in the Rav-4 and there was a long line of cars in the left lane, all crawling along at 20-30mph (despite that carriageway being pretty clear). So I thought I'd give lane 2 a go and, with 4wd grip, I found it perfectly safe to drive at 40-50mph past the slow moving cars. I did proceed with caution, trying out steering/brakes/acceleration etc etc and all was well.......

So we were happily passing all the slow moving traffic; when about 3 cars in front I saw a VW beetle in the left lane - the driver had his arm out of the window making a certain hand gesture towards me.......:xxx:

He continued doing it until after I had passed his car. Why??? I had not encountered this car before; I had not cut him up or pulled back into the line of traffic in front of him - so his "action" was competely un-called for! What is it with these small minded prats that makes them behave in such a manner - yes I was passing a line of slow traffic. But hey - it was a dual carriageway; they were all doing 20-30mph (in a 70). Ok there was a little snow in the right lane but it was certainly not causing any problem???

I didn't react and went on my merry way - but I just thought I'd have a little rant now. Sorry!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

ignorant to55er, forget about him.

You did state he was driving a Beetle, nuf said.

LOL

What it was mate was he didn't like it because he didn't have the skills or knowledge to understand how to drive on the snow, stupid tw@, if you see him ever again confront the little tw@, that will shut him up.

dont upset him mate :scared: he may beat you to death with that woosie little flower those beetles have on thier dash :flowers:

Only question from me would be if you had to do an emergancy stop on the sowy side of the carageway you were driving on at 40 - 50mph what would the outcome have been?

Not talking about watching whats ahead and driving safely so could stop cos of lots of distance being given, but having to do an emergancy stop due to something beyond your control or forward vision.

Would you have stoped easy and safely and not been hindered by the snow compacting under locked up tyres and becoming ice shoes to slide on or would you have just gripped and stoped like on a wet road?

Not having a pic of the road of knowing the actual conditions I cant answer that but look forward to your reply.

I've had the same gesture for doing nothing more than driving with the targas off.

does the right-hand lane say "only w*nkers drive in this lane" but you couldnt see the markings under the snow? :D

seriously though perhaps everyone was being over-careful and no-one dared venture into the uncleared lane, and anyone considered doing so was a 'w*nker' as he put it.

Good point - but I believe I'd have been able to stop safely. Upon venturing into the right lane I "tested he water" so to speak. There was only a light dusting of snow on the carriageway; not a total white-out. Acceleration/steering/braking functioned normally and all indications led me to believe the car would have gripped and stopped like on a wet road. Plus it was a straight dual carriageway and it was otherwise bright & sunny with good visibility. I was driving within the capabilities of the vehicle and making sufficient allowance for the prevailing conditions!

Lol...It was the middle of summer, maybe the chest wig, gold bling and the theme tune to Miami Vice blasting had something to do with it. :walkman::cool2:

don't these people understand that you wont clear the road unless you drive on the white bit. the salt they spread doesn't work unless it is crushed
