Just a general question really. How often does a nissan 300zx twin turbo need an engine oil change?

 

Also what are the signs to show you that your enigine needs rebuilding by looking at the oil of the engine?

Firstly with regard to engine oil change, I think the manufacturer recommends evry 10K miles but as these cars tends to be driven sportilly, I change my oil & filter every 3000 miles. This of course is not necessary, but that is my criteria. As for looking at the oil and making a decision on whether the engine requires rebuilding is quite a difficult question as really you would only see a noticeable change if the headgaskets leaked. Normally these engines start smoking, blowing the dipstick out, or misfiring when the the engine is tired and worn. Obviously then your first step is a compression test, both dry and wet which will give you an indication of the the engines condition. Also the colour of the exhaust smoke is a good indicator of oil being burnt, turbos being worn and headgaskets leaking. Nothing on these cars is straightforward and all problems need to be approached methodically.

Good advice, oils cheap compared to engine rebuilds..

Depends on what oil is being used, mods and what the car is used for (road or track etc).
