Hello everybody,

My car has got to go in for a complete re-spray and basically I've had a few qoutes to do the work and I've got a question about the rear screen. Two garages have said that they will have to take the rear sceen seals off, so they get no masking tape lines. The third garage (Luke's Z centre) has said that the screen is bonded on and would be masked round. I am pretty sure that the Z centre know the score, but a previous garage who put my rear spoiler on masked around the rear screen and the lines were really noticable. Has anyone had the rear sprayed and what was the result.

Cheers guys

Vijay

Not sure about the question you asked but I think they're right about the rear screen being bonded in - I've heard this from a number of sources. I didn't believe it at first but after everybody telling me it was true I started to trust them.....

Hi Vijay, Andy,

I was also told that the rear screen was bonded. I spoke to Autoglass who said that if the rear glass were removed you run the risk of breaking the glass, due to it being bonded.

I was trying to find this information out as I have a leak somewhere on the rear seal and wanted to remove the glass and then reseal it.

After hearing this news I didn't want to run this risk. Like you I would prefer that the glass were removed as I wouldn't want paint marks on the seal either. I think, maybe the sprayshops you went to don't know this info and could run the risk of breaking the glass whereas the guys at the Z Centre prefer masking tape just in case the glass does break.

Hope this helps a little and let us know how it went.

Zee ya.

Thanks Andy and George, It just goes to show that garages talk out of the arses when they say they've done plenty of Z's. One of the garages was the Nissan bodyshop!!

Vijay,

Luke and his bodyshop resprayed my car and masked around the rear screen without removing the seals. I'm very satisfied with the finish and I can't see any mask lines

I don't think the seals are easily removed without risking damage to the screen.
