I've noticed a small but long scratch/score on the side of one of the "pots" on my front brake calliper :glare:. I can't feel it but it is quite visible. The question is; is the pot buggered and needing to be replaced or am I being too cautious?

could I polish it out? if so what compound do I use?

I've tried taking a photo but with my skills it's just coming out black and blurred and not very visible :euro:

Think I already know the answer to this  but thought I'd ask anyway.

cheers

Dave

I would say give it a try. If you can't feel the scratch it obviously not deep.

Pop it back together with new seals and see what happens. Have some one pump the pedal with the engine running and check for fluid leaks - I'd be very suprised if it did.

When I refurbed my calipers, the pistons weren't entirely perfect and I've had no problems.

All done now but still to be fitted, bled and tested :thumbup1:

I don't think the scratch would cause fluid leak as its on the pot wall, I was worried about it being a place for crap to build up and cause the piston to stick resulting in brake binding. I'll just keep an eye out for it.

thanks for the advice folks :duffer:

tell the mrs that it does leak... dramatise the fact that your buggered as the parts are no longer available... tell her your only option is to hunt down a set of r34 brembos and she will have to put in some overtime to get the cash together while you trawl gtr.co.uk... :euro:

haven't got a missus mate, I tried lying to myself about needing ksport brakes but I wasn't having any of my crap that day!!
