Ok I can see the basic differences between the two kits, and the traditional hicas lock bar looks to be by far the easiest to install. But does the driftworks lock kit make a huge difference in the handling over the lock bar alone? Is it worth the extra hassle and money? Will I need a full wheel alignment if I just fit the lock bar? If the hicas ball joints are suspect would I be better off replacing the whole lot with the DW kit or would the symptoms not show once the lock bar was installed and hicas disengaged?

Finally how do people go about looping the lines after the lock bar has been fitted?

Many thanks again for your technical wisdom!

Personally i would fit a Driftworks lock out bar, its a full kit and it gets rid of the HICAS ball joints as well. The simple lock out bar just connects to the ball joints.

i am fitting a lock out bar because i just replaced both hicas balljoints recently and they aint cheap to waste.

I was at the Nurburgring last year when my o/s rear hicas joint failed. Maybe it was on its last legs, dunno. That swayed me to get rid.

I remember when i got my 300 approx 5 years ago, took it to Mr Feeny for a service and thorough look over, and the first thing he said to me when i picked my car up was, "get the hicas gone". 5 years later, and its gone.

It does not matter which option you decide to go for, I would certainly recommend an alignment check. In the past I have changed both arms and joints and measured the rod threads with a vernier, and it drove OK but later when I had the whole lot checked, and adjusted, afterwards it drove so so much better. It felt like a different car.
