After taking out all the boot trim, un-doing all the necessary bolts which hold the brake lights in place.. I tried to push my Brake lights out, but they were stuck in place..

I don't know if this is due to the cold weather we are having lately, or are Z32 Brake lights Glued/Sealed in place? as I could not get them out no matter how hard I tried...

They appear to have a kind of black seal around them.. and my car is like 19 years old and I wouldn't have thought they have ever been taken out since they were put in from factory.. so the seal has had 2 decades to cement itself...

Can anyone give me any handy tips on how they would over-come this "stuck break light" issue

Many Thanks

André

they all have the sealent on you need that mainly intact as that's what you need to heat to open the casing it self if you're thinking of doing 99 spec copy's?

and it's z related so cant see an issue with the section :)

oh, i'm not trying to open the actual lights themselves up.. I just want to remove the lights from the car as I have some 99specs to replace them with... I just can't get them off/out the car lol.. Once the bolts are un-done.. You would think you then just push the brake lights out and then you can replace them.. but with mine, they are stuck...?

when all bolts are free it should push out my zed is as old as yours and they came out with very little effort try a little heat with a hair dryer to soften the sealent

Okay I may try that Gary thanks, I think it may be with the weather the way it is, they are frozen solid... So I presume it is just a sticky seal that goes around them which is stuck?

heat around the edges of the lights with a hair dryer, it doesnt work straight away but after about 10 mins (on each light) you will start to feel movement when you push from the back, then just heat them up where needed, and they will start to come away from the car, you will need to heat the back stuff back up if you are going to fit the light back into the car unless you have some to replace it.

it does take time, just use pleanty of heat and controled force and they will come out.

I did mine recently... The clue gets all over no matter how careful you are so wear some rubber gloves or something as I had to bath my hands in WD40 lol. As per above heat up a little then they will come out. But make sure your have all 8 (i think its 8) screws out of the back and then give them a puch from the back. I pushed with the end of the screw driver (the butt end lol)

I have all the rare bits you can't find :tongue:

I removed my light units recently, just used a wallpaper scrapper blade to carfeully run around the rear of the light unit to break the seal. Mine had been out before and someone had used Tigerseal as well as the old Nissan sealant. As an earlier poster said it a very messy job and the stuff sticks like $h*t to a blanket. Oh yes and if you want to get hold of the original Nissan sealant strips it is still available @ £25! per unit.

I think i'm going to do a combination of heating/using the hair-dryer, using a scraper and tapping them out.. I think it might have just been the fact the car was frozen with the recent poor weather but it was ridiculous how tough they are stuck in place..

The advice is greatly appreciated though guys!

Thanks again.
