ahn yeah the nsx thats a machine and a half not keen on the old style porsche the lights put me off but love the wide body though

I have had 7 Porsches, including 4 911s and three of those were 996s including a GT3 and a Turbo S. I have had a Turbo S for about 4 or 5 years now and it is a fantastic car.

The basic 996 is a fantastic car, very fast, the traction control is awsome and they are very very reliable. Servicing is probably not as much as you think and it is completely an everyday drive. You can get loads of fun bits from http://www.design911.co.uk/ if you want to play around with it.

If you can get a good one for about 15K I doubt you will ever loose much money on it as that is very close to the bottom price wise. I love owning exotics and a 911 is an icon of motoring. Whenever you drive it you will have a smile on your face .

Is this another weekend fun car or will it be a more regular driver?

If you're planning on frequent use then I'd stick with something German; like the Porsche or perhaps a Mercedes (old school 500SL is still a classy motor)!

The NSX would also be reliable, I reckon but I (personally) would not spend £15k on, what potentially could be, another (almost) 20 year old car.

I like the TVR Cerbera; and they can be picked up for quite reasonable money now. They're awsomely fast (around 10 seconds to 100!!) ditto the Lotus Esprit V8 turbo - but both have their own reliability issues and will cost £££££s to fix.....

The 911 is great value for what you get but not a fan of the cabriolet as it spoils the look of the 911 roof line but I do love the 996 targa with the panoramic roof, would be tight getting one for 15 grand but should be possible:yes:

You can actually get a new R230 shape SL500 now for that money = was toying with the idea of one myself!

Damn quick everyday motor thats great as a convertable or with the hard top up as a coupe - looks good both ways IMO!
