Anyone have any idea how easy it'd be to wire up a remote start on a car? obviously the main alarm would have to be turned off first and then remote started.

Think I'm right in saying there's a neutral switch on manuals on the gearbox ;)

i thought these chould only be fitted to auto's so as not to start your car when in gear

think your right thats what i was told when i asked about mines.

really not an issue for me anyway, my car hasn't moved since feb! lol

remote start is the best thing mate for these cold climates, i use it every morning without fail, its freezing outside but soon as i get in my car its bloody too hot, love it.

You wont love it when the engines died. That is one of the worst things you can do to a car.Your bores will glaze up in time and it will lose compression.

Really?

I never thought it would do any damage to the engine. If anything, i thought it would be better for it since it's letting it warm up before being driven.

Oh well.....every days a school day!

Not doubting you cos you obviosuly know your engines ;) but I've always been mighty confused on this. What difference does it make as isn't your engine doing the same work but if it's not in gear it obviously doesn't transfer the power.

The situation I'm in is I cannot drive my car and won't be on the road for another 6 months or so. I'd like to start my car especially in this weather as I've had some condensation and want to get the heaters on in there.................

Under cold start conditions fuelling is increased. As the car is only idling it cant burn the rich mixture fully so the bores get washed by fuel.Bore washing is when the oil on the bores which is whipped up by the crank gets washed away causing wear and glazing. This applies to all petrol vehicles turbo or non turbo. If you read any owners manual it will state the vehicle should be driven straight away and brought up to temperature gently.

so does it make any difference if the engine is revved to simulate driving?

And just out of interest, does this apply to diesel vehicles?

Wow i never knew that I thought you d have more probs driving a cold engine eg, cracking rads etc ( which i did on my last zed it split a seam in the cold weather coz i didnt let it warm up)

i do it on my BMW as thats my runaround, id only do it on that, as i couldnt afford the petrol costs doing a remote start on a 3litre.had other remote start for years never had any problems, so maybe it depends on engine to engine. your the expert i aint going to argue with you.
