Hi There -

I have seen some wonderful examples of chrome plated plenums around and I was wondering if anybody has any recommendations for a company that could chrome plate mine?

Do I need to do any prep work before the plenum goes off to them? Does it need to be polished BEFORE going for plating? This may be a stupid question but do they plate the inside of the plenum as well? Do I need to worry about chrome build up in the threads or on the gasket areas?

Any help would be appreciated.

Many Thanks in advance - Cyrus

You dont need to get the plenum chromed, it will polish up to a high mirror finish if done correctly, look at Andy isherwoods thread

:sleeping:Yeah, but I heard that polishing can dull drastically with time and needs a lot more mantainance and I am fundamentally lazy!!!

I had already found these guys who quoted £450!! to polish to the standard in the pic (full concourse standard) though they could do it for £150 if you did not need such a high level of finish on the centre branches which are covered by the throttle cover anyway.

But Chroming seems cheaper and gives a more durable finish as far as I can tell. (please let me know if I am wrong) but I am just weighing up my options.

I know that Leigh(friday) had done some stunning polished plenums before (from what I have seen in other threads) and I hope that he might be willing to take on another one on.

To get it chromed, it needs polishing first so definitely not cheaper... the main problem with chroming is if it does lift or get damaged then it will need re-chroming whereas with polished you can repolisg it if the damage is only slight.

Rich

I had mine done at GS and it took about a month (as promised) the chap there was very helpful and polite. I am leaving it alloy rather than chroming it, another company did some of my other bits and I took them in there in August for and polish and chrome. Still not got them back they spin me some lie every time I call them and im seriously pissed off.

GS is a good bet m8 for the polish but he does not do chroming.

Quite common in the USA to get the plenum chromed - BUT - it expands and contracts quite a lot and there a lot of people complaining of the chrome flaking and of course going blue near the touch points. IMHO it does not look good, or sound suitable for anything other than a pure show car.

Polishing is the way to go chaps - come on! ;-))
