Decided i am going to keep my aircon on my engine rebuild. This may sound a stupid question but part of the aircon pipe from the bulk head is wrapped in this protective wrap. Question is, have people left this on as i think it looks dirty? Does this pipe really get hot enough to need the protection? If its the case that it is needed what would be best to replace it with?

The shielding is to protect the pipe from the heat of the manifold/ turbo and is definately required.
