As Kim said, the you have access to traders here who can help with new parts, tuning parts and used parts ( ourselves ) who along with DTA are both Midlands based, if your planning a detailed long term restoration you will not find a better place for help than here.

I would strongly recommend you becoming a subscribed member which will not only open up more of the forum for you but will be the best £20 you can spend on your zed, as far as a manual Nissan did produce one that is in the main for mechanical repairs and although hard to get hold of do turn up on ebay from time to time mostly in cd form but the book is preferable.

Good luck with it.

Hi P3zza214

I am currently trying to restore my uk 300zx tt targa. Mainly the bodywork at the moment as the tin worm has done a good job on her. I am no expert by any stretch of the imagination but I am happy to share what little I know. Attached are a few pictures of my latest repairs.

Not sure I would trust myself on someone elses pride and joy. Still practicing. Some more repairs attached.

I wouldn't call it pride and joy at the moment matey, more like love hate relationship, i love it, it hates me

some excelent fabrication there mate. i am doing similar work on a 200sx at the moment. damm rusty old datsuns.

Im sure you are on top of it but make sure you get rid of all traces of rust, once it starts its very hard to stop. soft wire brushes on an electric drill are very effective for getting out all the rust from the pitting. I have also had excelent results from the bilt humber deox range to get all those hard to get bits.

keep up the good work

Thanks for the comments Dougal200.:cool3: You are to right about the rust, seems to get every where. I to am a big fan of the bilt hamber range. One thing I have not decided on is the under seal to use. any suggestions?

If you need any specific photos that may help anyone I have in excess of 900 to date.

Redwine300

im just about to start on the undersealing actually.

ive been working on the rear acches for ages now but im just finishing up and the car is going outside for a while so i can do some work on the 300 over the winter.

so far i have used a combiation of different paints on the underside. i have been using a similar product to por 15 in areas that will not get stone chip. this goes on over bare metal once it has had an acid spray applied then washed off.

areas that have had heavy rust and still may have a bit in the pitting have had a zink primer. The rest have had a weld through etch primer which i have applied before welding a seam.

the wheel arches have a coat of the etch primer then seam sealed using tiger seal (which i have just done tonight) then will get a coat of celulose (to keep out the moisture when it goes out) then when its all done ill use a stone chip over most of the underside.

back on subject i would try to use 3m stone chip if you can get it

for a good read on this here is a great thread from the sxoc

id love to see some more pics.

have you tackeled the rear inner sill section. it was a pain on the sx

Hi Dougal200.

I know what you mean about the rear arches. I have finished the near side and have just started the off side. I have attached some random photos of both sides. I am not familiar with por 15 or the acid prep so I will have to do some investigating.

As you, I use acid etch primmer and cover it with 90% zinc primmer. As for seam sealer I use a polyurethane type as I am told it helps to remove moister from the seam itself.

By the way what sort of cellulose paint do you recommend?

I will look into the 3M stone chip as you suggested. The 2 web sites look very interesting, I have had a brief look but will have a better look later.

Thanks for the info. Please keep it coming

Regards Dave

that all looks very familiar, as with the 200 they rust from the inside out.

I cant really recomend a brand or type of celulose. I use a supplier called ken and lyn

they are based in buxton which is not close to me (or you) but they do post

I go to quite a few classic shows where he has a stand and brings along pre orders. My dad is restoring an e type at the moment so i usually do an order with him.

most of the car will be finished in 2k as i have an isolated garage and an air fed mask etc. it is so much better but can kill you as you might already know.

under the arches where i will overcoat with stone chip i just use rattle cans for convenience.

It is amazing how much corrosion has taken place before it decides to show on the outside. As you say, cellulose paint is cellulose paint. I just wondered if you had a preference.

Do ken and Lyn have a web site?

It sound like you have a lot of indoor space to work in. As for me it is the front drive. The neighbours love me. (not)

Have been mainly fabricating inner sill sections today, only minus 3 deg's. Still no one said it would be easy.

Managed to get a coat of acid etch primmer on my latest repair I just hope it will dry out.

Thanks for the info to date.

Dave.

i spent the day moving the 200sx out and the 300 in. i do have a garage which i built last year but its a bit cramped as i have a locost type car in there as well.

stripped the front end down this evening and assesing some previous bad accident repairs.

Hi Dougal200, How did the strip down go? not too bad I hope. I would be interested in how it progresses. Persevered with the 300 over the last day or so despite the weather and made some progress.:sweatdrop: Hopefully in the right direction. As you have experience with these problems have you any comments that might help? (good or bad)

Cheers, Redwine300 (Dave)

first coat of dynax s-50.jpg

more dynax s -50.jpg

Managed to get the panel welded in today.:sweatdrop: Mig welding still leaves a lot to be dresired though. Ground back where needed and preped with acid etch primer followed with 90% Zinc primer. More wax to follow. Will it ever end!!

final coat of zinc primer.jpg

Well i know didly squat about welding so i`m impressed! You`ll get there in the end...then the bugger won`t start..he he!
