Hi i read a lot of threads on hicas and the general opinion seems to be that its better to be without it!!

Can i ask why,? is it rubbish, does it break easily, etc

someone will know.

Disadvantages:

unpredictable handling

too many problems including: wear of outer and inner ball joints, which leads to very dangerous handling characteristics ie rear end pitching.... not to mention the pain of having to replace the ball joints which are a nightmare.

i believe the hicas arms are too skinny and bend when touching a curb....

adds extra weight including the solinoids, the piping, extra fluid, the rear rack and the ecu.

buy the driftworks hicas removal kit and u get the benefits of ridding of the ball joints completely and replacing with inner solid rose joints and outer bushings, the arms are nice fat and very strong and orange :D

nice solid predictable rear end feel, TRUST ME....

saves quite a bit of weight and tidys up the engine bay.

the bushings are very easy to replace if they ever need to be....

sorry to hijack but im thinking of removing the hicas aswell, what else is needed eg do you have to block off pipework etc etc, or change the powersteering res etc.

thanks Craig

good luck then Jimmy, one question, its actually connected to the original thread question,,, you said by doing the hicas removal "saves quite a bit of weight and tidys up the engine bay." how does it tidy up the engine bay, i thought the hicas was applicable to the rear ?

cheers Rich

If you look under your hood u will see a big ugly solenoid in the front left corner with loads of spaghetti going in and out of it.... u can dump all that crap....

Yep - everything he said - I am a driftworks HICAS kit happy user :1eye:

Hi I'm interested in replacing my Hicas with the Driftworks removal kit aswell but want to know if this includes the inner ball joints, as I've got to replace these. Thanks

Thank you, has any one got a link of instructions how to remove the solenoid and all the stuff with it?

I'm in if a group buy goes up. Otherwise, at £195 incl. VAT, looks like a good bet.

Andygp what's the difference in handling after you fitted the DW removal kit?

TRUST is the word. If the reason you bought a ZED is because you like a bit of 'spirited' driving (when safe to do so) or occasional track use then you have to get the HICAS out of your car IMHO!

With the HICAS gone - it's back to you and the car, I just could not live with (or trust) the backend whilst HICAS was involved, was always a little unsure going into a fast corner (and coming out) and frankly that spoils the experience somewhat for me - especially if you like to drive 'on the gas'.

I still consider it a gimmick add-on, and not a 'safety feature' that helps the driver manouver around fast corners!! Others will disagree. Even my scrummie honey has commented on the difference in the car's cornering 'stability' after removal - she always said that [before] it felt a bit like a Thorpe Park Ride when cornering before - and I kinda know what she means.

At the end of the day it is of course down to you sir - but I for one would reccomend it whole heartedly. (:dots:Personal opionion and I am not responsible if you remove your HICAS and drift into a tree pre or post removal:dots:):blink:

Cheers

Andy

So I'm guessing I need to get a press to get that ball joint out coz a lot of people seem to be struggling to remove them without one.

I used a socket and nut. Slid the socket over the ball joint and tightened the nut. It'll draw the ball joint out. (Remember to remove the dust cover on the back!)

If that dont work, position a socket where the dust cover used to be and hit it with a fair sized hammer :D

Or you could remove the hub and have the ball joint pressed out.

Ahaa thanks I'm gonna try using the socket and nut method if that works for me, don't really want to use a hammer incase I break something LOL.
