Right, I've had a search around the forums and am still unclear about this so I'll ask in the hope that someone can help me!

A few weeks ago I started up the car (at night), turned on the lights and the rear foglamp turned itself on. If I pressed the foglamp button, it had no effect. If I put the high beams on and then pressed the foglamp switch, all the lights would go off. This was pretty amusing but ultimately unpractical.

This issue seemed to resolve itself just as soon as it started for reasons that are beyond me.

Today I went out for a drive and all the electrics were working fine. I get in the car to head out again this evening and the headlights are playing up.

When I turn on the headlights (normal/dipped beam) the left hand HID comes on and both main beams come on (but extremly dim). The drivers side HID doesn't come on. Also, the blue high beam dashlight comes on, then goes off when I turn on the high beams.

When I turn the high beams on, only the left hand side light comes on.

I am fairly useless when it comes to electronics, so can anyone help me out?

From the other posts I've read it sounds like a relay or earthing issue?

Featured Replies

Sounds relay related to me, in the large fuse box in engine bay, there are two relays a black one and a brown one.

If you can get a spare to test it might show the problem.

either way about £25 from Nissan.

hmm... so as I said in the first post, I'm fairly useless when it comes to electronics! Can anyone advise as to what exactly I'm looking for. I know which relay it is, but as for the earthing, I understand that the light needs to be earthed, but that is as far as my knowledge takes me. Earth is usually a black wire isn't it*? Can anyone shed any light on what I'm supposed to be looking for, and then what I'm doing when I've found what I'm looking for?

*This should give you an idea of my electrical knowledge.

I was looking at this thread (http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=133428&highlight=earth+light) which has helped a bit. Will the problem most likely be at the fuse box end, or the headlight end?

Fixed! (I hope)

Was down to a loose connection going into the relay...
