I had a look to see how my car is coming along today, the whole thing is being taken to bare metal and I am having new arches welded on both sides as well just to be on the safe side. All the windows are either out or coming out as well so it should be one hell of a job when it is done. They are also doing under the bonnet to match so there is a lot of prep being done there as well. Bodyshop of the year two years in a row and it shows to be honest!.

I had no choice the paint on mine could not be matched, so I decided to go the whole hog and do it properly rather than just give it a blow over. I really hated the fact the car was white and under the bonnet it was the original off white colour. Chances are this will be the only project car that I ever do so have not cut any corners. Si has seen my Porsche they have done and the job is better than factory, like a sheet of glass all over. So it will be interesting to see what it turns out like when it is finnished.

It will be amazing when its finished, but i cant understand why you bought such a nice example in the first place, only to strip everything and have the engine rebuilt, would it not have been cheaper to buy a standard car and then rebuild.

Just curious lol

I bought a nice car not expecting to have to paint it to be honest, I never planned to do as much work on it as we have. It had a small dent in the front wing from a flying bolt as well as a small rust bubble on one of the rear arches apart from that it was mint. At the time I was under the impression these bits could be touched up for a few hundred pounds according to the previous owner. Thing is the garage who painted the car last time told me it was known for some time there was zero chance of being able to touch the car up as the base tint was no longer available. After the initial pissed off phase I decided that with everything else that was planned for the car we might as well go the whole way and have it re sprayed as good as possible. At least this way you know what you have and the car is solid as a rock so it should never need doing again. I was going to change the colour but I have to say white is very striking on one of these IMO so have decided to go with that again but using a future proof pearl.

I got carried away on buying stuff for it, kinda "Jaffa style" and before I knew where I was I had spent 40K on mechanical parts alone. Throw this respray on top along with some new recaros I just bought, the cost of the re trim, a kick ass custom audio fit I have planned, and some new wheels etc and the price of the car and roughly im expecting it to stand me in around 70K.

Doing this is a terrible thing to do financially as the car will probably be worth about 7K-10K finnished. But i have wanted to do something like this my whole life so sometimes it is the journey that is important. As soon as it is run in (if we can ever work out how to get it running) we will get it on the dyno and and see what is possible using a big build engine with NOS in one of these. Kyle has told me what he thinks it will do so we shall just have to wait and see .

In terms of cost of a respray like this, normally you are looking at around 10K but I got a bit of a deal as they are doing it in between jobs to keep the costs down. The flip side of that is I dont exactly know when im getting it back.
