After spending 3 years and a solid fortune getting the 300 back on the road I've gone and wrecked the engine again  It's my own fault this time as I drove into a "puddle" on the road the same as everyone else going that way but I've got water in the engine :headvswal. I've spun a bearing and the engine sounds like a tractor. I've informed my insurance company who's going to send out an assessor. Out of curiosity, How much would a brand new engine cost from Nissan?? My mechanic is well p***ed with me after all the work he did rebuilding it, he had the cars engine purring. He reckons that the whole engine is scrap as I've probably damaged the rods and crankshaft as well as the new bearings he had fitted:(

I've had nothing but bad luck with the 300 from the first week I bought it in 2005. Don't know whether to see about scrapping it or see if the insurance will fork out for a brand new engine. I've a feeling that it will be uneconomical for them and they will write it off:( . It's only got 50,000 miles on the clock!!

Is driving your car into a puddle covered on a standard motor policy? if so, why don't we all do that & get new engines!??

Ireland is at present having a lot of difficulties with rivers bursting their banks and flooding as presumably you guys are also. The regular roads were closed and this road was deemed fit for travelling on by the council. It's not like I deliberately wrecked my engine after paying the road tax (1296 euro) last week and getting it NCT'd (Irish MOT). Not to mention paying for a full rebuild over the last year and a half. I've only had the car back a couple of weeks.

Thanks bud, at least you are trying to help me get this sorted out. If there's an assessor being sent out they are probably going to do something for me and if they aren't, at least I know how much it will cost to start from scratch with a brand new engine.

No probs bud, not to sound unsympathetic but its quite an interesting topic really. I don't think many people even consider buying a spanky new engine never mind research into it.

I would of thought it will just be written off tbh mate :( But maybe you can buy it back and start over with it. Depending on how much wonga they refund you, you could look into highly modded rebuilt engines. I know every now and again one crops up like the Jun engine not long back. That was like a 3.1 or 3.2 engine with a stroker kit etc.... whatever all that stuff is, not that tech minded lol.

:eek:I was looking at that!! :eek:We're in a reccession at the moment bud. I'll see what the insurance wants to do and if its a no-go with them, I'll just have to rebuild an old engine again, I know where there's one that overheated but didn't seize so we could rebuild that one maybe. The reason I was asking about new engines from Nissan is because I'd reckon that would be the route the insurance would go for quotes to fix. If they write it off do i try and get it back or should I spend a few quid on my Evo 8

Thanks Gary, I'm hoping they'll organise something, It's a shame to have to scrap a good car, As i said earlier i'd be hoping they'd give it back to me and i'll get a different engine rebuilt.

good luck buddy:D!

if it was me i would go the same way as zogg did!:hyper:

dan.

could always buy mines and get your mechanic to sort that one out.lol.

Fecked if I know!! As said earlier I was looking for a price for a new engine from Nissan as that would be the route the insurance company would probably go. If it was too expensive or couldn't be gotten they might settle with the book price of the car. I could then see about getting it back as there is no damage to bodywork etc. and then use the funds to finance an engine rebuild AGAIN!!. I hope that it would work out either way as they get paid enough money for my premium.

Think there about 6k new.

Agree with Wow seem to remember JeffTT said Nissan want 6-7k' ish just for a short engine!
