Hi guys, i need your wisdom on turbos...

Did the JDM 300zx come with slightly bigger turbos?

What are the standard size (OEM and JDM if they are indeed different)?

Whats the max boost you can run on them?

Thanks

Mark

Jap/Uk same size, Manual/auto same size, turbo A/R on the Auto slightly smaller than the manual.

All turbo's T22b's, which is a bit smaller than a T25.

No all turbos the same across all markets.

But the manual cars come with a slighter larger unit as apposed to the auto car which has a slightly smaller unit to decrease lag and give alittle more torque to cope with the autobox

The most you can run at a push is 15psi & thats with a 'chip' to increase fueling, anymore than 15psi and bigger injectors are req'd to deliver even more fuel and again a different 'chip' set to run more boost and bigger injectors!

It is said that much after 15psi the turbos loose their efficiency at which point turbo upgrading is the step.

so a chip and bigger injectors, or bigger turbos.

How much power would be being produced at 15 psi (thats manifold pressure i take it so both turbos running 7.5psi)

They are all the same size, it is Only the A/R that differs between the auto and manual. Geez i must have sold about a 100 units!

A/R (AREA RADIUS) relates to the turbine and compressor housing.

The small the A/R the quicker the turbo, however not by going too small.

Rough memory is Auto's were .53 and the manual .62-64. Most replacement turbo's for the zed are around the .64 mark.

That's why you can't really buy an aftermarket turbo for an auto, they are all the same.

Big turbo kits tend to be higher than 64 meaning they have more puff at the end

Boost wise, yes 15psi is an extreme max.

cheers

For the record, I had not seen your response, before I posted (i was obviously thinking it out). I was not disputing you...Geez!

Based on chip and boost increase to around 14psi only, power rise you could perhaps expect 340-370bhp (flywheel) depending on condition and fine tune of your car.

Pushing boost to 15psi will be stretching the injectors to max which is not ideal.
