I intend to turn the boost up a bit on my car, but I am not sure whether the ECU is chipped or not... the car has no stock boost solenoids, so I assume that one of the previous owners removed them and ran it using an EBC. Ive opened it up and taken some pics. Any help would be appreciated

It's got a chip carrier, so therefore is not a stock chip. But it's kind of irrelevant since you don't actually know what map the chip has on it. Could be a JDM chip and may be mapped for a different octane fuel. Best thing to do is fit a 'known' chip from John Dixon, Zedworld, AndyP or DTA.

looks socketed and chipped to me i'll find a stock one and post link

stock ecu board from a series 3

do you still have the EBC on the car then?

how much would a known one set me back? No the car doesnt boost fully at the moment but I do have a Blitz SBC Id that I plan on fitting, but want to be sure the ECU is up to the job.

As for that link, I cant actualy open it, any chance you could just show the picture?

i got a chipped ecu here will get some pics up and see what you make of it.

Not sure whose chip that is, certainly not one of mine though as I always use U/V erasable EPROMs.

8ACE: The car is a 92 import, so I assume it should have a series 1 ECU? were they socketed as well? The outside of the ECU case has a big number 23 on it..

stock chips are soldered(as in the pic I posted up ) in not socketed. Yours has been socketed to take an aftermarket chip. I think yours would be the same type(series) as far as I know only the later models had 16 bit ecu's which were different. AndyP above is the man to talk to he programs them :)

That is a standard Nissan chip.

That is a standard Nissan chip.

Im lost! is that where the chip is meant to be because i was told this was a chipped ecu!!!! running this with boost jets ect!

dan.

may be ran with boost jets on standard chip.

i was under the impression it was chipped along with boost jets to give a bit more bhp! so is this a standard chip then that came out the factory?

dan.

I think there is a socket under that chip, although it is difficult to tell from the photo. However, it is a standard Nissan chip, it is possible that someone has scraped the label off, UV erased it, put the label back and re-written the chip - but unlikely !

Even if standard i would of thought it would overfuel for safety because of the boost increase. Not the best way is it, I would get it checked out mate.

If it's a bog standard Nissan map with nowt done to it, as the boost increases, the fuel will lean out and cause Dett.

A little retard on the timing of a degree or 2 would help eliminate it.
