I have been driving the Zed for a month now and after my last visit for a conzult @ Zedworld we found thet the thermostat is jammed open the engine is running too cold and is spending most of the time in safety mode.

I'm up to Zedworld on Thursday to get is sorted and i'm also having an ECU upgrade.

my questions are as follows:

How much of a difference is there between safe boost mode and normal mode (ie performance difference)

and secondly how much of a difference will the ECU upgrade make? (Jeff reckons about 70bhp) but what will this equate to on the road?

Thanks for your help people.

Car is a completely different animal when running full boost, my old zed was on safty boost when i first bought it, once id fixed a few probs and back to full boost wow what a difference.

Mate when chipped and boost increased its a hugh difference. 100 mph+ put your foot down and mine just pulls and pulls. I take it you have exhaust and air filter upgraded?

Its quite shocking when the boost is upped. They are 'quite lively' as stock, but afterwards theres an almost instant responsiveness right through the rev range, which i didnt expect + gentle throttle control in the wet becomes crucial.

Usually its when im joining the motorway + accelerate at 60+ mph it all goes very sideways in the rain.

I've No plans on going back to stock though...

Not yet - but i will be purchasing in the near future - i've just got to budget a bit at the moment as the missus has just jacked her job in - and we are a 1 wage family at the moment.... I wouldn't mind but I'm only a youthworker and we dont earn a lot.

So next month it will be the brakes and an underseal as its pretty clean underneath (according to Jamie @ Zedworld)

Then a new exhaust - induction kit and i'll be looking for some new wheels but its going to have to be after t6he new year i think.

quite excited though to be honest. :hyper:

seriously if youre going from safety to im guessing 14psi with boost jets and chip you will f***ing notice the difference!!

And be bloody careful on the roundabouts as you leave Jeff's place. DO NOT try to 'nip out' in front of anyone -unless you really want to dazzle everyone with your sideways driving skills

lol  i hear that mate - no need to waste that money spent by ditching it on the way home :wack:

Seriously though - how much of a change to the insurance premium do you guys reckon this will make? I pay £223 on a classic car policy from Lynbrook at the moment.

Also i've read that the 0-60 for the auto TT is about 7 seconds, what do you guys reckon the difference would be after an upgrade like this?

Either way i am looking forward to treating myself though - we all deserve a little treat from time to time. :hyper:

An Auto is 5.7 to 60 ;)

With it being chiped it will be around the early 5's but the main differance is in the mid range

Well i got the bits done today and changed my clocks to uk - so managed to get rid of the gentle bonging when i went over 60 odd mph, and got rid of the limiter all in one fail swoop. (also allows me to use cruise control at greater speeds now)

Unfortunately it was peeing down most of the way home, and i didn't want to rag the nuts off it just in case, but it definitely seemed to have a bit more grunt on the motorway .

I think that i need to get a new induction kit and exhaust asap. I am quite keen to get this baby up to speed so if you guys have any tips then i'm all ears.

what sort of exhaust and induction kit do you suggest for max power increase?

Then where to next after chip, induction, exhaust?

I hope its dry tomorrow so i can have a proper spin and see what she's saying.

I have a monggoose and k@n filters. The apexi filter cone is rated better though. The car does need to suck and blow better so good thinking in upgarding those items. You will see more of a difference in performance with the later.

I took her for a bit of a test drive today as the roads were dry - much better, :D

I find if i want to really get it to pull, i'm having to go through the gears rather than leave it in D, and press the old overdrive button, but she is much, much quicker than before, i am a happy man :):)

I cant wait to get some cash together and sort the new exhaust and induction kit.

i went for the apexi and plan a long life quad system :D

definately at least sort your intake out mate - Apexis are popular but are quite difficult to get hold of unless you know where to look.

go for a sard sport ex induction kit (Air filter), get the funnel with it and you can have 3 different configurations depending on what you use your car for. street / track / race set up
