Hi,

Just been reading through a lot of HID related threads and I must admit I'm thoroughly confused as far as terminology is concerned.

Could somebody please explain what is meant by dipped beam, main beam, high beam etc. in relation to the following:

1. The main lights when driving at night;

2. The traditional 'side' lights (not always on the side these days);

3. The very high intensity beam (blue symbol) when driving on a dark country lane.

Also, how do the above relate to the round and rectangular lights on a Z32.

Thanks.

1. main beam (round lens light, outermost on the main cluster)

2. Side light (square one, inner most on the main cluster)

3. High beam (full beam, blue light lit on dash when on)

Your Dipped beam or as you put it Main beam is your normal driving light for night time. As said above they are the round lense lights in the main headlight unit. These are the ones you want to convert to HID.

Your High beam (Blue Symbol) is the lights you use when you're on unlit roads etc.... They are the main square lights next to the Dipped beam lenses. Its not really necessary to convert these to HID for various reasons however you can if you really want to.

And the Sidelights are in the front bumper. On both UK and Jap cars they are in the very front rectangular units, altho UK and Jap units look different they tend to have the sidelight in. SOME zeds have the sidelights in the corner units, but not many in this country.

HTH :)

...

So I need H3 HID for the round linghts then.

Yes H3

And just for clarity......

Dipped Beam = H3

Full Beam = H1

Side Lights = 501

Front Fog = H3 (But with the loom side converted from bullet to female spade connector)
