In short, I have a complete, brand new exhaust system to install.

 

Do I absolutely, categorically, 100% need to remove the engine to replace the exhaust manifolds?

 

Or has anyone done it with the engine in situ before?

is it a NA or TT?

why do you want to remove the manifolds then? the exaust system starts from the downpipes and even if you want to replace the downpipes you can get to them from under the car :)

I'm replacing all of the exhaust (including manifolds) as the N/S blows like a bitch and the rest of it as pretty ropey.

if your doing both manifolds then yes you need to remove the engine or at least lift it half way out!!

 

you can get to the passenger side manifold but its not easy and you still have to remove the turbo first

You need to lift it at least half way out so that the manifolds are exposed.

the drivers side is just too close, no room to get down there and you cant get from under the car either due to the steering etc and once your done stripping it all down to get from under you might as well of lifted it up a foot or so :)

Stupid question and a bit of a thread hijack but i have to do this aswell as got a blowing drivers side gasket. how hard is it ti partially lift the engine as ive never done it before anyone have a rough idea on whats inloved please
