Today has been the first day that it has rained since i got my Zed.... and i'm sorry to say that she doesn't hold water so well...

 

whats the score with the targa tops? do they all leak after time or have my rubbers gone or something like that? It seems that it is concentrated at the front of the panels, and a bit of water coming in on the passenger window seal

 

Any advice?

Yup, afraid so all targas will leak, there some on hear that dont have leaky t tops but the majority will.

I beleive checking the rubbers for the cracks and then opening it up alittle and putting silicone in should do the trick.............stand correct tho but thats what i will be trying with mines, even tho they hardly ever leak.lol!

Tired and old rubber perishes over time, some have used peanut oil, to bring the rubber back to life. You will find the most common area for leaks is where the front corner of the targa meets the rubber, it gets flattened over time, you could raise the rubber channel slightly with a matchstick or similar as a temp fix.

 

New rubbers are very expensive, but are available secondhand, but you may end up with the same problem in the end HTH

same here mate i got my z on thursday last week and today first bit of rain and a WET BUM:(

i bought this, put it on to where i suspected the leak, didnt work........then put it just all over the rubbers.lol. Still didnt work. So think the silicone route is best to go

clean your channles that will clear 80% if not do the trick

Just to put a positive spin on this, my Zed is 100% leak free & has been caught out in proper rain. It has never leaked even when car washing.

I do treat the seals to a light coating of silicon grease from time to time keeping them supple.

plenty of different approaches, most of which are mentioned above and i have tried them all to varying degrees of success, lol!

 

as Spin doctor says, make sure the small channels that run from near the edge of the targa top to the wheel arch are clear.

check the rubbers for cracks/bad repair.

make sure that the rubbers are correctly bonded to the metal so water doesnt just travel beneath it

use Capt. Tolleys creeping crack cure to plug any gaps left over. this fixed my driver-side good and proper, but even the cure wont stay put in my passenger side, meaning there's a larger gap somewhere that i have yet to find!

2nd here and no leaks either!

 

Use a good silicone spray to clean, saturate & replenish the rubber on a regular basis - it keeps the seals nice and healthy!

rubbing vasaline into the rubbers also works (just don't let next door catch you rubbing the stuff onto your car) lol

I believe that will perish the rubber over time due to the petroleum in it, peanut oil is suppose to be a better alternative.
