I've got a gearbox in bits if you want it. You can have it for free!

What is wrong with your box?

Cheers for that,

I'm not sure whats wrong, other than It won't go into top gear and I think theres some slipping as well, might be part of the same problem.

Matt

Consider getting your sick one rebuilt by a specialist, then you'll get some sort of guarantee. You wouldn't want to splash out a load on an unknown box and then have it pack up after a few months !

I just had mine recon'd as it wouldn't shift very quick and hardly any kickdown and it is now great. Reconing my own cost a lot less than buying a new one. I didn't go for a secondhand one as I wasn't sure of problems it would come with. Reconing got me a guarantee too. An autobox specialist sorted it for my via my local Nissan dealer (Midlands) so they cop the call first if something shits out.

Cool, the car came with a warrenty on the engine and gear box and the dealer has offered to get it fixed or give me money to do it myself, any rough ideas how much and how long?

You can pay between £1K - £2K depending on what you have done and by whom. I would recommend having the box upgraded at the same time as the rebuild (only costs a little bit more), the change will be smoother and more predictable. SE (www.se-nissan.com) and a place that Tim found in Watford would do it - not much use if you're iup North though.

Forgot .... you should also have a larger oil cooler fitted too. This will probably make the single greatest improvement in longevity of the box - some companies insist on it for the warranty.

If you are near the midlands let me know, I can supply the details of the dealer who sorted mine out. The recon of my auto gearbox cost me about £1k. I had a new radiator fitted at the same time and I have found out that it came with a second redundant cooling circuit, I am getting the gearbox oil cooling circuit routed through it soon, it was an option over a larger oil cooler.

Seems like this is a common problem with thes cars. Mines just done it too, and theres a long and sorry list of similars in the technical forum. Anybody know what's wrong with the box at component level?

Fraid to say giving somebody over a grand for another box isn't tempting. The cars not worth that to me. I might be persuaded to repair the box though if it's a more cost effective solution. let's face it nobody want's a broken Z32.
