car has failed mot on emissions (co2)

pulling the vaccum pipe on the balance bar just cuts the engine on mine, so need new o2 sensors.

found these on ebay, any good? as long as it does the job and get me through the MOT fine

If pulling the small pipe off the balancer bar causes the engine to cut out, then this would suggest other issues which in themselves could be the cause of the emissions failure.

Low base idle , retarded ignition, throttle in-balance, boost/ air leaks

hmm thanks jeff.

ive done boost/vacuum leak check, cleaned the throttles,

the car woudnt idle, so i removed the idle valve & cleaned, then adjusted then it idled fine. drives well aswell.

i thaught if there was a vac leak it woudnt idle?

only other thing, when un-plugging the TPS, nothing happens.

ive tried testing it with a multimeter in the middlle prong, and other end on batery neg, and i cant get a reading to test/adjust it.

would the TPS effect emissions?

bumping this thread,

garage have checked all pipework, and i have.

theyve said could be the o2 sensors, but they dont wana say that for defo?

shal i get them and see? i cant think of anything else, as ive checked more or less everything else

O2 sensors do sem to go quite alot on these cars. i think its just down to age.

I have heard funny things about the O2 sensors on ebay causing problems but im not 100% sure?? To be honest i could be thinking about the maf's

Danny can get genuine ones for about £120 for the pair iirc?

i just dont wana be barking up the wrong tree thinking its the o2 sensors, when its something else?
