The story goes like this:

I've sold the manual conversion from my shorty only to get my LWB back on the road, after it's MOT, to find that the gearbox is giving a light grind. More so, when in 2nd and 4th gears and it gives a bit of a crunch when going into 2nd gear.

I've been looking about at getting my gearbox reconditioned but cant find anyone local. I pressed the magical "SEARCH" button and looked for what people have done in the past. I found a thread with Stenorth and someone else talking about Quaife sequentials and other aftermarket boxes.

Anyway, while searching for aftermarket boxes, i stumbled across this:

http://www.importpartspro.com/ni30twtuoem9.html

And it mentions about the syncros being stronger in the 98+ boxes.

Im just wondering, is there any other differences with ratio's or anything?

Would there be anything else stopping me from putting a 98+ Box into my 93 LWB?

I just bought one of these from Kyle, the later ones have a lot of issues ironed out apparantly so would be the way to go.

to be fair yes the syncros were nismo items int he later box but there still designed for oem power but will just last longer without the dreaded crunch, its still not strong enough to handle big power and while yes it may last a little longer but you will still get issues :(

better to upgrade the internals rather than spend near £2000 on a brand new box :)

Mike

does the OS giken kit include synchro's too?

yes bud :) rb motorsports will be best to speak to, just ask for rod

Hold on, Hold on.

OS Giken do gearbox internals for the VG30 Box?

I'm about to put in an order with RB Motorsport for a new set of plates for my OS Giken clutch.

Could be food for thought if RB can supply box internals aswell.

Yeh RB are the uk's main dealer for OS Giken.

you drop your box off and rod will build it as well ;) not cheap but good for 800 bhp :)

So what sort of money are we looking at for a rebuild of the box then? I'm getting annoyed with the 4th gear crunching so was looking at a 98 replacement. Nor bothered about handling massive power, just want the bloody thing to change smoothly.

Sweet.

TBH, im not after a box to handle silly power.....500bhp approx.

Think i'll give him a call and see how much he'll do it for.

Thats my zed off the road for the winter now so if im gonna do something, just aswell to do it now!

did you speak to them? Went out for a little spirited spin and my 4th gear syncro is well and truly fried, suspect 1st to 2nd is going too!
