right, only got my Z32 a week ago, no strange noises, its auto TT '93, but '03 import, done 52,000 miles,

but noticed its started to have a slight clicking noise from under the bonnet, its in time with the revs, not sure its loud enough to be a bearing as my old s13 went through 2 engines due to bearing failure, (ca18det engine are crap and i was putting stupid power through them lol)

its low millage, since ive had it its been drive 500miles redlined once for 0-60 timing but not taken over 4K other then that,

was told these engine were strong, all the fluids are at the right levels, its never overheated, (was a mates car before i got it) it too low millage to have spun a bearing surley,

it sounds more like a valve to me, but i started it today and its got louder, it gets quieter as it warms up, you can't hear it unless the windows are down and it ecoing off a car next to me or a wall,

any one had a similar problem, anyone know where i can get it fixed near manchester...

dam i guess this puts an end to my moddifiying idea, i'll prob go back to 200sx i think.

Clicking noise could be a sticking injector or is it more of a tappet noise.

HAs it ever had some injector cleaner in, or get hold of a screw driver with engine running, put driver onto top of each injector and put against your ear. this will locate it. Might have the dreaded green gunk on the connectors, give em a clean with a small file and some contact cleaner.

If it is tappet noise, might be in need of an oil change,

I changed mine every 4k or twice a year and it purrs...........

sounds like a sticky lifter to me? as stu says do an oil change with decent oil and see how it is then :)

It needs driving. The noisy hydraulic tappet / lifter will soon sort itself out with some steady warm oil flow. It can be typical with any that have been stood idle a long time.

right i have (i think) the same tapping noise, last owner said it started just after an oil change, an that hes been told the garage that did it put the wrong oil in the engine, he was advised to change the oil for the correct one, alone with an engine flush but never did.

Phoenix, does it stutter when you try and floor it? as mine does, its fine unless you try and give it some welly, then it stutters / sputters. will be changing the oil sometime this week to see if that will clear it,

If we stick a screw driver on the injectors, what sound are we listening for?

The tapping sound, the loudest you find will be the area where the problem lies

These engines are strong but the ancilliries like hoses, cables and other mechanical based electronics are pushing 20 years old, you'll fine most problems on here are with the aged component issues, engine wise mines done 90km and still pulls like a train.

Actual engine failures are few and far between in my experience on here, its usually down to other components.
