Please someone help me before i cry... autobox??

i have had problems with my autobox since the day i got the car

its normally just not changed up gear when hoofing it

not it changes as normal just not when hoofing it as before but it seems to be slipping... and quite badly

its only in the first 2 gears..

for example going throught first and second its fine .. when hoofing it does not change up.. but if its in 3rd and kicks down it drops down fine.. but then it gets to 4k and instantly jumps round to the red line and slipps very very badly

and same in each gear till about 80 when it catches up....

the box was rebuilt last year...

is it the end of the box or could it be something easy ????

how cheap can i do a manual conversion?? if the box is gone thats the way i will go but its my money for my turbos so they will have to wait instead :( :( :( :(

please help

Sounds like another auto is on it's way out, could be line pressure solenoids? Try the auto-diagnostics test aswell.. other than that, I think it's safe to say, start saving for an auto to manual mate.

Oh Pete, dear Pete!!! get shut of the autobox! , I am on my 4th auto box in my TT now and sick of them!, Dont spend any money on it and go for the manual conversion, which i will be doing next year. I have no problems with auto in the vert as it is NA and low powered but my TT keeps shredding auto`s, do it ! go manual!! ;)

DaZ.

Try dropping the oil out and have a look for any particals of clutch plate in the oil, you will need about 4 ltrs to top it back up.

Paul

just out of interest did you have a shift kit fitted to the gearbox on the last rebuild?

i did not do it ..

richard smith had it done.. it cost around 1500 for it..

i shall have a look on the recipt

oh dear

same old story, if your a suday driver that likes kicking back and enjoys your car for what it is an once in a while use or and abuse the auto box on a tt thats fine but if on the other hand you couldnt wait to buy a 300 and setteled for an auto and given the chance cane it when you can im sorry your going to kill your box its a weak point .

no i just wanted a really good car.. i managed to get a good car and well looked after uk car from a mod off of here and spent plently of time looking for them and for the amount i bought for i got a great car...

now time to look for manual conversions

oh know... what do i do..??

i am looking at new turbo's.. 900ish

plus g box.. 1300-1500ish

hicas joint.. 150 ish

only paid 1950 for the car..

am i gonna be better off cutting my losses and selling it? and starting a gain just buying a manual as i do drive cars very hard...

Just wanted to ad my two penneth for what its worth!! I searched for ages for the best condition original Zed I could find and found a real minter... TT LWB Targa in black with full leather interior 48k miles - All original very very clean full UK service history with every receipt and since '92. I drove all the way down to Cornwall to pick it up from Birmingham..... Then while driving it home.. you guessed it... the auto box went pop. Very similar to yours, would get a little drive in 1st and 2nd but would not engage 3rd or up and revs would simply hit the limiter with no power to the rear wheels. I had it towed back to Jeff at Zedworld and he fitted a recon auto box and (touch wood) I have not had a problem since. Now I do drive my cars hard and use this one every day and I have not had a problem with the performance of the auto box but the shift pattern is a bit ponderous and takes its time to kick down. In hindsight I would probably wished I had gone for the manual conversion and I probably will save for it for next year but I don't think you can simply right off a well maintained autobox for day to day use. I would not say it is the best auto in the world but it will get the job done but if you can stretch to it get the manual conversion. Try and get a scrapper to salvage the turbo's and gearbox from (harder than you might think as usually one or other of them is at fault) and try and fit the turbos yourself if you can manage it and get the manual box fitted proffesionally. Or talk to Jeff at Zedworld and get on the list (behind me) for a manual conversion but don't dispair - the auto is really not that bad if you can find a goodun'!!

zero trouble with mine, the guy before me imported it and owned it for 6-7 years also with no trouble.

I've had mine 2yrs and no trouble either. I'm just wondering/toying with the idea of putting one of these on to help things.

Anyone think this might help Pete's auto out a bit - or will it have no effect?

Sorry to dissagree with you here, but you're talking *****cks!!

After I bought my Eliza I used it as a second car, most weekends and occasionally during the week, then the box went, I had it recon'd and used it the same for a while, then started using it as my daily driver all the time with no problems whats-so-ever!!

The problem is that these boxes are old, the newest ones will be at least ten years old, and the oldest twenty!! What would you expect?

Pete, if you have it recon'd, use a reputable agent who knows whats-what with this box. I can't recommend the guys that did mine, because they are a bunch of dicks!!

Best of luck with it

Dave

cheers matey.... deciding what to do at teh mo as reconning etc as well as doing the turbos is more than i paid for the car

and the wife does not mind me doing it.. just knows what i am like.. i will do it all then sell it cos i am bored.. then loose the money.. i know what i am like....:headvswal

Are you sure it's not the torque convertor? I'm not too sure how this would affect what you are describing. We need a real expert to answer this properly, not the usual "mine did this... mine did that" brigade! ;)
