Hi all, this is my first post, registered yesterday an been doing a lot of reading.

Right I've just bought a 300zx 2+2 off flea bay, and need some advice on it already lol,

It needs to be taken for a MOT at some point, soon as Ive sorted out what appears to be a sticking valve or noisy tappets, it drives but if you give it too much throttle to soon, it sputters. the listing stated it had the wrong oil put in and needs an engine flush / oil & filter change to sort this out.

Its had twin stainless steel exhausts put on that are decatted, as i need to take it for its MOT, its also got an induction kit on it, I'm not sure if I'm going to need to put some catalytic converters on it, date of registration in the UK is 1st of march 2005, but the year of the car is 1991, so I'm now confused as to if it needs cats or not for the immersions test.

You wont need cats, anything before 1992 doesnt need them mate, ive a 92 and its de-cats.

thanks for the speedy replies, so guess it doesn't matter what date it came to reside in the UK, as long as it was built before 92?

lol i wished, though i wouldn't like the tax rate band that would go with that one, any one know a good Decat MOT station in the northamptonshire area. though saying that distance isn't really an issue, it was 500+ miles to get the car, it also looks like someone on this very forum used to own it at one point as it has 300zx.co.uk stickers in the windows :D

get some photos up of it:D!!

Just take it to any MOT place that you trust! Doesn't matter about the de-cat part of it, if they do say anything inform them of the year regulations ;)

And post some pics up, we may know it :D

I'm hoping that tapping / stuck valve isn't going to throw the emissions off, think someone might know this car, last owner bought it from Glasgow.

Last owner did a vid of its engine note. which i have to say sounds fantastic.

Nope don't recognise it, sorry.

But I see it's lowered quite a bit, and nice shiney alloys..... are they still that shiney?

alloys are standard but chromed, they are fading a little bit now, but still very shiny

Its been lowered by 40mm by the look of it, though not sure unless i find out what its supposed to be and take a tape measure to it, got double induction kit on it (thought you could only have one?) though as i said, I'm new to the car, and a stainless steel exhaust, so any pointers as to what could possibly be the problem with this stutter if you try to floor it? or should i make a new post in the relevant section.

Sounds like you've got a Dual Split intake and say two apexi cone's i'm guessing under the nose panel ?

more beneficial with other supporting mods but rest assured you're getting enough air lol
