main thing is the emissions, for some reason on the drivers side it was well over but the passenger side it was lower but he couldnt get a lamber reading?? said it could point to a problem on that bank.

it does pop a little on idle

Do you have completely divorced exhausts then or something?

no dont think so, ive not checked but i'm sure it would have been advertised if it had them

the mot place said it needs cats but i really dont want to put on some sports cats

Then how can the tester test both banks and take readings from the O2 sensor....unless he's got conzult?

It doesn't need cats. What year is it?

i think he was just guessing as it gave different readings from each bank

its registered on 1.9.1995 which after 1.8.1995 it needs a cat

Most Z32 exhausts have a balance pipe in the centre of the middle pipes....which I am sure you know, so emissions/pressure is pretty much equalised.

Z32 can still pass a cat test without actually having cats. If you pull the boost hose off the balance bar, this will drop the fueling and the car will pass its emissions.

Mine didn't need any of that. :D

i did tell him this but he showed me the system and if it doesnt pass the initial test then have to go onto the system and put in the reg number etc and then you have to do a cat test which it fails so if i can get the emissions down without the cats then it should pass but i tried pulling a vacuum of the balance bar and it did nothing?? infact it made it slightly worse LOL

Do you know if the ECU has an aftermarket chip in it? Do you have conzult to check the O2 sensor readings?

yeh it does, think its a jd chip but will need to check with its previous owner, no i dont have conzult yet but i am trying to borrow one to see whats going on in there :) will give it a good going over at the weekend and do a leak down test and boost leak test to make sure everythings OK

I really want to get ConZult. Always end up using Jimmer's! LOL

mike..take the little rubber pipe off the ballance bar and let a little air in upstream of the maf, allways works for me with no cats;) failing that pm me and ile tell you more mate

But yours doesnt need to pass a CAT test. So its fairly simple .

My 95 Version S is april reg and likewise doesnt need a cat test.

A Cat test pass needs a CO reading of less than 0.3% and HC level of less than 200PPM. Thats really hard to get to unless you have a cat actually fitted. particulrly the CO reading

Curious to know what the small split that needs welding is....Is the something common??

no nothing common, at some point its had a small repair around the suspension area and looks like where its been welded has split a little, its no anywhere important but as its close to the suspension spring the mot picks it up so not overly bothered apart from its gonna be a pain in the arse to strip it all down just to do a 2 inch weld LOL
