By Wednesday I would go into somewhere lik Car Phone Warehouse, Vodafone, TMobile or PC World rather than online

Thinking about when I went abroad a few years ago I used my Nokia plugged into the laptop for internet but dongle is better and probably cheaper now

Check the coverage before you go,should be able to see that on a map.

i had vodafone ,At my work it was 56k type slow. But that was Still faster than anywhere in + around my home.never again...

A lot of hotels do free wifi anyway.

iv got a vodafone payg dongle for my carpc... cost 35 quid and comes with 15 quid worth of credit (1gb) which is supposed to give around 30 hours of normal surfing. the main reason i bought the voda dongle is because the credit does not expire like others.

also doubles as a 4gb memory stick and micro sd card reader :)

Im using a Vodafone 3G PAYG dongle on my PC right now (just moved house, waiting for broadband).

Its cost 15pound for 1GB of Data and its been very reliable and quite speedy for me - Pretty much basic broadband sort of speeds.

As for use in portugal, i would look at the roaming data charges, they are often horrific! I remember a couple of years ago a colleague of mine borrowed an old t mobile pcmcia "dongle" as people would know it now, and did somthing like 150mb over it whilst in france and it cost £140!!! obviously not saying all are like that but i cant imagine it'll be the same as UK cost.

Hi Jeff

Might be cheaper to buy one over there so you don't pay roaming charges

You could always sell it on to someone else who's going there.... sort of club coperative data stick share !

Tony

I just investigated this for work because of a trip to France. Roaming charges are horrific. Couple of points to consider:

UK payg don't roam.

Contract UK mobile broadband does roam but for example Vodafone charge £10 per 5mb in France.

Can't buy pay as you go in France because well they don't do payg. Then you need a French bank account for a contract!
