E39 BMW M5 or a 5.7 v8 monaro, im leaning more towards the monaro just on how rare it is compared to the beemer.

Monaro for me everytime. Was behind one the other week and felt a twitch when the bloke booted it off the lights.

Just get the hairdryer out and remove the Vauxhall badge, only bad bit about the car IMHO :rofl:

The M5 without a doubt. its a FAR better car. The Monaro gets praise because of how capable it is for such a low price , but their is no question the M5 is a far superior car.

Plus the Monaro just looks like an omega with a bodykit on it. Does'nt appeal to me in the slightest.

between the e39 m5 and the monaro i would buy the monaro, if it was the newer m5 then possibly the m5.

also you can get the new monaro for around £24k as they cant sell them!! not a bad buy i recon :)

Cheers mate, not 100 percent sure i want to sell it. Same shape as this one, I think it would be more expensive to service the bmw

M5 but running cost are probably more than a zed though, I looked into buying one last year, fantastic car to drive.

If you have to have any of them over a Z, I would buy the BM, maybe you should buy them both and keep the Z.............. ;-) I reckon that in years to come the Z will be worth more than each of them anyway..... have you seen the price of the previous model M5 lately and the Monaro is afterall just an Australian Vauxhal with only a 5.7 engine. From experience I think the Z will be a lot cheaper to run than either of them too.

M5's are wonderful cars but can be quite crippling to run as a daily, especially if you intend to look after it properly. Suspension components and servicing costs can be quite prohibative. But then again it depends how you drive it, the odd sunday blast vs redline everywhere you go... I wouldnt advocate running it to the shops, stop start traffic or anything like that. A usable super saloon it may be, but it wont appreciate a punishing life like that.

Clutches dont tend to last long, especially with racing starts. Exhausts can be VERY expensive as well.

This guy has an interesting website, with a month by month journal of living with an older M5 with a few miles under its belt. Not bad by anymeans, but certainly not a cheap car to live with! http://mukerji.co.uk/cars/2000-e39-m5/

BMW in my opinion, i dont want something that looks like a Vax Astra (older style) from behind!
