Hi all,

Wheels balanced, followed by alignment and still she pulls to the left :) and brakes unevenly. What else could it be. New tyres on the front, rear look even. Running on 225/50/16's.

Could this be a steering rack issue? Suspension related? The steering wheels predictably shakes at 80mph and nothing has changed since the balancing/alignment last weekend.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Alex

Forgot to say, yeah, had new stock discs and pads fitted about 8 months back. Someone else also suggested that this could be the problem. I'm not all that impressed with the braking I have to say, it doesn't fill me with confidence.

Is it more likely to be disc related than steering or suspension?

Thanks for that, decent rotors was on my list, but not so high up. Just don't want to start upgrading until the basics have been dealt with.

Cheers now, Alex

Slightly buckled wheel by the sounds of it, this is EXACTLY what happens and it becomes noticable at those kinds of speeds. I have had this a few times when I have hit pot holes fast on low profile tyres.

If it is a brake problem the wobble comes from the peddle not the steering wheel as a rule!. I have always ended up replacing front wheels to rectify the problem, visibly you might not see any damage either!.

Buddy, have you looked at the calipers. The pistons somtimes sieze and can cause problems with the car pulling to one side. The vibrations though does sound wheel related.

Guys, nice one, thanks for that. I presume a buckled wheel or wheels like this wouldn't get noticed during balancing? The wabble isn't from the peddle that's for sure. Hadn't thought about the calipers, so either way, it sounds like I should inspect and overhaul the discs and calipers as necessary and as for the wheels, since I've got 4 identical, I could try swapping back to front to see if it that makes any difference.

Jonce, out of interest, what are you planning interior wise?

Cheers now, Alex

I'm going the leather looking route, full stereo/carputer upgrade n more. Thats why n jae for me this year. The outside good....insise im not happy with.

Also when getting them balanced ask the guy to do it for zero unbalance. I had unbalance vibs which I thought I had to live with until I explained it to the guy and he said he could get to zero. They usually settle for a small remaining unbalance that is unnoticable on most cars. Once balanced properly to zero it was smooth as silk at any speed. I think the "feel" the zed steering has exacerbates the feel of unbalanced wheels.

Have you got after market wheels? if so check the hub adapters are fitted in the wheels or on the hub if not the the nuts have to hold the wheel central on the hub ...but don`t do it too well at high speed

They are called spigots rings? yeah something so simple with give you wheel wobble......

Great feedback guys.

It's a Jap Import with the OEM 7.5J 16" front and rear wheels. It's got worn Bridgestone Potenza's on the rear and 1yr old mid-range on the front, all 225 50's.

The rear discs are old, but the front are new. I'm going to replace the brakes lines, new pads and will put new discs on the rear. But was thinking this wobble would most likely befrom the front wheels? It has always been like this since I bought the car 2yrs ago.

Could it be a bearing? If so, would that cause a pull to the left? Today, I noticed a slight pull to the right.

I keen to try a few things to get it right...

Didn't know about the zero unbalance option so will give that a go for sure. The calipers could be at fault, won't really know until I can inspect them. I'll look up the spigot rings and check those too.

Could it be anything else? Or should that about cover it?

Thanks again, Alex

Hello. I am new to this forum and would like to ask for a bit of advice. I see this is a very old thread however my problem sounds fairly similar to this.

My car has got bigger front brakes than standard, a previous owner has had a large set of skyline calipers fitted and it has been that way for over 10 years. I have had the wobble now for a few years and its the 3rd set of disks we are on now (they have been changed to rectify the problem). I have not done extensive problem solving myself yet but I plan to now.

The one time the problem was eliminated was when i had the disks skimmed on a machine whilst on the car. This fixed it for a few thousand miles. Unfortunatly its back and worse than ever, worst when under heavy braking, hot and high speed.

has anyone had a similar issue?

Thanks,

Fran

Sorry guys I meant to add this comment only to the thread 'Help needed bottoming shakey steering under braking.' which is more similar to my problem.
