Me and my friends have set ourselves a little task.

We, by tomorow night have got to find a car for sale in the UK, up to the value of £1500 that has to be taxed and tested and able to hold out for a day of thrashing round a track.

Im going to get trawling the trader and pistonheads now, but do you guys have any ideas?

the purpose is to not actually buy it but to see what we can each come up with, no point buying a new engine until the old one dies

simple and a no brainer, pug 205 1.9 gti, strip it out and hey presto track car :)

I'm actually going to do this with some mates... looking at an early MX5, remove the roof, change brakes and wheels and heypresto!

buy an old honda civic with shite body work... that will be fun round the track with some good tyres and pads. or even an old celica,,,,, friend of mine had one with 300,000 miles on the clock never ever let him down once, unbelievable.

Sounds like it is mate. Once the valves start coking up due to the blowback, you'll loose a cylinder. Won't take long for that to happen. Your Z sounds like it has a high probability of terminal issues. Without wanting to sound like a kill-joy, I'd diagnose its problems fully before buying a track car.

yea it is going to Zedworld to be looked at soon, not actually buying the track car was just seeing what we could each come up with, all are good ideas there guys, thanks, also Ive found a e36 328i with a manual box for £1200

TBH, as a track car, you want something small and nimble with a free reving engine. Big slab of E36 ain't gonna give you the shits and giggles like a stripped out Astra GSi or Golf GTi would. Hell, you can get Nova 2.0 16vs for 1500 now.

We need a 24 Hours of Lemons, like they run in the US. That'd be fun.

thats any easy one, a gen 4 (92-96) 2.2 honda prelude, 200bhp standard, vtec goodness and they go round corners like their on rails. Loads around £1000 will get you a tidyish one :)
